That's it exactly - luck. :)

You can increase your chances by having as many people trying for you as you can muster, all hammering away on F5. That's one advantage that large groups have - 5 other people all trying for the same tickets, and if there's any more split into two or more groups with all the groups trying for the remaining members as they become successful.

But yeah, other than that it's luck.

Tried for 6 years before finally hitting lucky in 2015 and again in 2016. I'm putting 2015 down to sheer good luck but did read somewhere that it was better to use a mobile with 4G. That may have been what swung it for us this year as whilst five of us were on tablets and laptops my daughter's boyfriend who wasn't even awake for the 9.00am kick off tried at about 9:15 on his phone and got straight on to the page without having to refresh.

Nah, still luck i think. I got them last year on an ancient hand me down laptop.

Its so creaky I could only have one page open so maybe that helped.

That's a shame thought I'd found the sure fire way to a golden ticket ;-)  Even though getting towed on and off site and the mud was a nightmare this year we're still hooked. I wonder if volunteering is a viable option if unsuccessful in October, I really felt for some of those kids up all night stewarding on Wednesday some really seemed out of their depth, I'm sure my years of "life experience" would qualifiy me. Failing that I'm a mother and previously worked with animals so could perhaps do a few shifts cleaning toilets lol!

I'm with you on that. The festival has gone out of its way to make the ticketing process as fair as possible so there's absolutely no reason they'd want to discriminate against a particular computer/browser/OS/service provider. All they are going to be bothered with is the IP address

I've got tickets every year I've tried, and my tactic is just to smash the hell out of the refresh button and hope, basically. I tend to be one of 2 or 3 trying and its always been me getting through. I don't think I'm magic or anointed, its persistence and luck. I'll miss out one of these years I should think.

Then I'll volunteer!

Luck and trusting others!  Until last year I'd had a 100% success rate.  Only got tickets in last years resale.  Did ok for myself this year but someone on eFestivals (the lovely Matt) got them for my friends, otherwise I think we'd have failed :(

As others have said it really helps to have a group trying. Normally have three people trying and would say it has been split fairly evenly across the group over who has been successful each year and we have been going for 10 years in a row.

Also you do need to get on the f5 button before 9am and keep going until there is no hope left.

I think some people have a little go and get fed up and go and have a cup of tea when the can't get through with a couple of attempts.

Twice I have got through in the last couple of minutes to bag tickets so you need to hang in there!

Literally is just luck but as mentioned it is better to have a group trying

I started going in 2011, I've got a ticket every year from then on but only once have I got through myself and got them, the rest of the time it has been someone else in the group. 2015 if I remember rightly we got them with about 3 minutes to spare before they sold out

Over the last few years I've got them on phones, ipads, laptops and my work desktop.

There is no pattern.

I tried in main sale, resale and secret resale but ended up going as a volunteer. I think i'll probably try in main sale and resale every year now and when I don't get a ticket i'll volunteer. I think the only way to guarantee a way in every single year is to be prepared to volunteer if you don't get a ticket.

As per my earlier thread, this is my third year in succession but we failed on the initial sale and panicked ourselves into buying (trying to buy) hospitality tickets, which obviously didn't work out.

I know it's not feasible for everyone but there are lots of other ways and means of getting in to the festival, even at the very late stages of the build up.

Where there's a will.....

I've managed to get lucky for the last three years (even though I sold them back to the Festival for 2016), and that's due to both persistence in F5-ing the hell out of it for as long as it takes, and the magic of eFests... in 2014 I managed to bag somebody else here their tickets. In 2015 they managed to do the same for me, and this year I returned the favour again. It's her turn for next year!

already thinking of contingency plans, not being defeatist just prepared. So if you don't manage to get tickets is it safe to wait until after resale to volunteer? And if volunteering as a couple what is the likelihood of getting similar shifts? Apologies if these are stupid questions but this was just our second year and only discovered this fab forum a couple of weeks before the event :-)

    • £112 for standard entry. No thank you.
    • Meanwhile Gracie Abrams is £92 for the cheapest with the average price around £160 for lower tier and £103 standing.   First time in a while I've gone from a definite yes to a definite no on price alone.   Amble was £31 this morning.
