Just tried to subscribe but just got a spinning wheel after going through PayPal...

hi Adam,

I've just checked in all the relevant places, and the only sign to me of you having done something is that a recurring payment has been set-up (which can be one part of buying). It's possible that the forums software has yet to receive some info back from PayPal (I'm not sure how instant it might be).

I think similar happened with someone last week, who then made a manual payment, only for the PayPal payment to go thru a few hours later. I sorted out the bits and pieces and refunded him one of the two payments.

So you can wait and see what happens as the payment still might go thru, or you can do it again (and I'll refund a 2nd payment if that happens).

Scratch that, paypal is now showing the payment

I just received an email from paypal actually. So it must have gone through. Which is excellent news!

Now that I'm a gold member do you send the magnum of champagne to my house, or do I have to pick it up?

This has just happened to me too - it seemed like the payment went through paypal but when it tried to redirect to the site it just gives a spinning wheel, I will check online tomorrow if the payment has gone out and if not try again

Ah, okay. Let me know and I can always send it again and wait for a refund or something. Whatever's easiest for you. :)

Probably a stupid question but given the context I'll ask it anyway.  Where can I find how to get gold membership?  It doesn't appear on my phone ... I use this site loads though I don't post often & would like to support it.

on a phone you can navigate to it by scrolling waaaaay down the page, where you'll find it in the 'efestivals Store' block.

Or alternatively, just click here.

Might I suggest a "Efests goes offline in a month without your support" sticky Neil? Dunno if the majority of the regulars know that this is case.

Good idea, I don't think I would be able to carry on without my daily fix, and reading this has spurred me to sign up for gold member , which I had been meaning to do for ages but just not got round to it for reasons of generally being crap and disorganised (which I am sure could apply to many on here ;))

as I've always said: I ain't gonna beg. It'll live or die by its own merits.

The more likely reality at the end of the month is that efests keeps running but I won't be sat here to help it run. I won't be throwing scott out on his arse.

Which means, from a user-visible point of view, problems with ads won't get addressed swiftly, spam won't get removed swiftly, subscription issues won't get picked up on quickly, content won't be as up-to-date and as comprehensive, etc, etc, etc.

It's not really begging though just to let people know that there are various, relatively simple and cheap, ways that they can help contribute to the general upkeep of the site.

Just signed up for Gold membership, would be awful if this place disappeared, what would I do all day, also getting an awaiting approval message.

Thanks for the sub, and sorry it's gone wrong for you, too ... oddly, another has just gone thru smoothly straight after yours.

This issue first cropped up a few weeks ago, and I manually approved the stalled transactions but also raised a ticket with the software makers. Because I'd approved those transactions they weren't able to investigate fully and asked that I not approve further instances so they can take a proper look.

I alerted them earlier today that it had happened again, so now unfortunately your upgrade is stuck until they can take a look ... my apologies for the delay.

My PC is 10 years old and creaky. I use adblock but allow ads for this site, the ads aren't that restrictive at all on my old PC. For anybody using adblock, either allow ads for Efestivals or subscribe to Gold membership.

Shouldn't need an incentive  to subscribe and I'm sure Mr Efests has thought of every angle. Would it be possible to have a shiny Gold star gif kind of thing displayed under a profile that has subscribed, even better if it's a moving one. Making it more visible/attractive might rouse curiosity or at the very least highlight the option.

Might be viewed as a crass idea or purely unrealistic,  but just trying to help.

.... was reading this thread, and made me feel vaguely guilty ..... I derive a lot of enjoyment from here, with very little input. So against all my nature and Scottish upbringing, I've dusted off my wallet.... another sub in progress. Keep up the good work!

    • I’ve had a good sleep and I feel weirdly zen about the whole thing.   My first Primavera, so not the greatest first impression. I guess today couldn’t be any worse, right?   Thoroughly enjoyed Men I Trust and Geese. Cupra is a beautiful stage and the crowd seemed fun, friendly and engaged.   I think it probably could have gone even worse, considering how dangerous the crowding felt at times.   Anyway, we go again.
    • Brighton centre is a weird old venue for the Mary Wallopers - a great band, a really good live spectacle, and its a saturday night as well which sets it all up - but its at the bloody Centre? a charmless nonsense of a conference centre? Brighton dome is a ten min walk away and is so much nicer a place to see bands its ridiculous!    ah well, i'll probably mosy along anyways . . .
    • So bad honestly. I get that bad weather happens but their communication was non existent. When you're managing crowds of tens of thousands of people, it's just not good enough. I left when Massive Attack was cancelled (the first time) and it genuinely did feel unsafe trying to get out. No one knew what was going on, people still sitting in the ground when there were hoards of people trying to leave, no crowd management at all...   I've been to PS enough times to know sometimes you need to just roll with it but this was way worse than "the bar queue was 30 minutes long".    Today will be better but still feel super disappointed.
