eFestivals
Financial arm twisting presumably? Do you reckon they were the one and only choice when they needed the Sunday sorting or do you think they went through a few others to make the arm twisting necessary? I don't don't know what the method of 'persuasion' was, but I do know they said 'no' because of the Paris show when first asked.

Quark
The problem with using phrases like "respect it deserves" is that many artists simply don't view the festival the same way fans do. To them it's just business, just another gig, and if their price or conditions aren't met they'll take it elsewhere, as is their perogative. Like most things it depends on the artist. When Springsteen played in '09 I seem to recall that his agent initially turned it down based on the money and not really knowing much about it, so the Eavii followed it up with a package sent directly to him outlining the festival's history, support for good causes and charities etc. Once he read that he snapped it up. But then he's Springsteen... EDIT: just seen this has been picked up on already, Should have read to the end of the thread Edited July 3, 2015 by Quark
The Placid Casual
Didn't Metallica take a massive pay cut to play too, or am I imagining things?

Rose-Colored Boy
The Kanye thing is a weird one, he's mates with Chris Martin so you'd expect he'd have been enthusiastically told what a big deal it is... His tweet when he was announced suggested he did understand. He later deleted that tweet, suggesting the stick had dampened his initial excitement - maybe after that he did just regard it as a gig no different from any other.
