one thing is for certain - if video replays existed, the last few pages of this thread would have been far more dull.

Oh I dunno, the NFL has video replays and people still argue over right/wrong decisions :P

The way football is so unaccepting that mistakes are made and incidents are missed is remarkable. It is said every week, that refs are human, which is a good thing, but they need to be treated like human decisions (ie. accepting that wrong ones are made)

The FA have the means to overturn cards now, they don't often in order to protect refs from shite decisions.

The ref needs to be thinking about the game, not about how the crowd will react to his decisions.

A few current refs don't seem to understand this, or some even seem to want to be in the papers on Monday :P

Sent it to Gold and Sullivan!

Wonder if they can get help LLDC get a refund on the retractable seating? :P

How did United and, in particular, Depay do tonight? Saw his goals and the assist and they were all beautiful, but haven't seen any more than that.

Hes still fairly raw but looks like some talent. Quite possibly the real deal. And not in the Nani way either.

do feel the media have gone slightly overboard *shock horror* ... he does well against Club Brugge and he is the next best player ever.

the media is full of Utd fans and Utd need a good player.

So it's hardly a surprise the media are excited at the thought of Utd having a good player. Whether he really is will become clear over the following weeks.

I've not seen any Utd matches so far this season but I have seen Nal give a shot-count, so I'm guessing that Depay wasn't a superstar against Spurs or Villa.

He was ok. Hes still very raw, lost a lot of ball last night but you can see by the runs, touches, control, shots, bits of skill etc that hes clearly very very talented.

Never mind Memphis, Shaw starting to look a player now he's fit.

He is yeah. Thought Utd were excellent last night. A little sloppy in the last third but thats new players not knowing each other. But a commanding and attacking performance. First time in a long time we've seen that.

Honestly think Shaw is going to be one of the best full backs in the world.

Saw him a couple of years ago at Upton Park when he was at Southampton and I've never seen a left back dominate the game the way he did.

Defensively he is really solid, not seen anything to suggest his positional sense isn't good, and when he drives forward he is so dangerous. Just needs to add a few more assists and grab a couple of goals this season and he'll be right up there.

I dont think you necessaily need goals and assists ot be the best full back in the world. He still has a lot to prove in my book. To me what defines the best in the world is pulling out those perfomances in the big games like Cashley did at his peak. Whether Shaw can perform under pressure is still very much an unknown.
