Leftfield (Band)

Dig Your Own Hole still holds up well, but the issue with the Chemical Brothers is the swathes of mediocre material that they've generated. When they're good they're good, but they're often not.

yeah that and Surrender are still great. The only rubbish album they've put out is Push the Button and that still has some decent tracks on it.

Are you aware of the Underworld song '8 Ball' that's used on the film soundtrack for 'The Beach'? That's a song that was written around the production of the Everything Everything DVD (I know that 'man', too. I've even drunk from the hip flask :))

The flaming 8 Ball tattoo man? Excellent!

best case scenario underworld and leftfield this year, but either would do!

as an earlier poster said the recent dubnobass show at gateshead sage was an incredible atmosphere, despite it being full of radio 2 listeners sat down for too long

leftfield issue is the sound sistim.. they've been proper sphincter twitchers when i've seen them before, but thats a technicality really

The wording of their tour schedule suggests it's only dubnobass in venues, not festivals. Hopefully their festival set will be dubnobass heavy anyway.

I've now got my hopes up that Leftfield might appear at EP too. I know it would never happen but I'd love to see acts like Leftfield or Underworld in a tent rather than an outdoor stage.

I think if Leftfield do EP this year they might headline the Electric Arena.

Underworld are surely doing the main stage as they are down as a headliner.

They'll do the midnight to 2am slot on Saturday night I imagine.

Leftfield in the Electric Arena would be obscenely good

I've just hooked the DVD off my shelf.

On the back it says "from Glastonbury to Fuji Rock, Brussels to Chicago ... captures the energy of Underworld's 1998/99 world tour".

Inside it says "filmed and recorded on location in: Japan, Holland, Belgium, England, Ireland".

Inside it also says "filmed by: Smash TV Japan, NPS TV/VPRO/Vara Holland, PSL Belgium, BBC England, Windmill Lane PIctures Ireland (Konor O'Mahony)".

So it could have some Homelands Ireland footage in there.

I know that a show in Holland was originally meant to be the only show footage that was used, that was filmed especially for Underworld. As I explained above, issues meant they had to find other footage to use with it (including bits of their live projections dubbed onto some of the footage), and I don't know if that show in Holland is the major part of the footage they've used or not (I suspect it is, tho).

Ah yes good man Neil, I had a hunch I read it on the DVD... it has a couple of extra songs as well I think... Moaner is one of them?

Yeah I like 8 Ball.

In truth there isn't much they've done that I don't like and I doubt anything will ever overtake Cowgirl as the best dance tune of them all.

Rez/Cowgirl live is the closest I've come to spontaneous human combustion

Bought Leftfield's Leftism album after recommendations from some of you.

Only two tracks in but I'm in love.

Cheers!

I'm genuinely jealous that you're getting a new introduction to it.

Bona fide classic.

There are some superb remixes of Song of Life out there as well.

Well worth seeking out.

The remixes are so good that Sasha and Digweed put three of them at the start of one of the most renowned compilations of all time:

This is great news, very excited. Went to that last Brixton gig and it was brilliant but hilariously full of middle aged ravers - fingers crossed that new single goes down well and they gain a load of new fans

I will have you know that us middle aged ravers were young uns when Leftfield burst on to the scene !!!

    • f**king horrendous and seems they couldn’t run an egg and spoon race.  zero info and the crush waiting to get in to see Massive Attack was potentially disasterous. Zero info, no stewards at all and was told that the whole evening was cancelled, when we got to the exit. Because it rained. First time attendee and i’ve got onsay, i’m far from impressed. Scalping bastard taxis asking €37 plus for an €11 fare too. Wonderdul.
    • Rumours are it's called The Lost Tour. In the US in September. Ireland in November (so UK+Europe a good bet around November/early December).
    • Hey guys, is there a group going for any solo y not goers this year?? I couldn’t miss out once I saw the acts but it’s just me and would be great to meet some others:))
    • After deciding to abandon the festival, here's a few of my thoughts (mostly negative tbf).    On the positive side - was it just me or were there a few more urinals than last year? Seemed to help the queues at the loos a bit from what i saw. Plus they had at least had some foresight and had a few more covered areas in the VIP areas.    Now on the negatives.  The weather was admittedly pretty crap but it wasn't apocalyptic. How the actual f**k are bits of the main stage falling off in those conditions?  Then the communication was awful, there's a load of people who left the site because they were told by security guards/other personnel that there would be no more acts on the main stage this evening.  You have an app Primavera, use it! Yes, there's a shitload going on I'm sure but communication with the festivalgoers should be one of the top priorities. You failed.    And I'm not usually somebody who buys into the whole "oh this is hugely unsafe and it's lucky people weren't hurt" narrative, but all the above led to movements of people that were genuinely unsafe.  Evacuating Mordor entirely (again... Why???) and then having a horde of people trying to get in because they thought they were going to Massive Attack was insane.  And given a lot of people basically abandoned ship around 10.30pm the crush at both the exit to the festival and the entrance to the Metro was pretty dangerous.   Conditions happen, most people will get that....but the contingencies have to be better.
    • You'd think that something like bad weather was in the basics of festival planning. After the shitshow of Madrid, you'd think they'd learnt their lesson, apparently not...
