Do you have a fire by tour tent/camp?

Back in the day the camping fields seemed to be dotted with camp fires but this seems to me to be in decline. That is a shame as Glastonbury is one of the very few festivals which still allows it, Do you have a fire, would you like a fire?

Totally agree we always had a fire but haven,t for several years it always used to attract random conversation /people which was great , not sure the festival has the firewood piles like it used to / or the firewood shops . Definatly cant buy the flare candles anymore

I prefer to have as little responsibility as possible. Starting a fire means I have to look after it

Our group usually has a fire if we have enough space! I love it. It's a great way to spend a few hours after a hectic day.

Camp in the central areas so no room for a fire. Used to have one way back when there was loads of wood left out on railway track and there was more space about.

The wood piles are just there, it's just that tents are so big these days that the space isn't there.

My own personal reason is identical to Dora's, responsibility is not something I'm looking for at Glastonbury

Yes sometimes, but we are in Tom's Field and if we get there late - i.e. past Tuesday then there's no wood left.

Sorry to ask but where about is the firewood? probably camping in pylon as there's a few of us this year and we want the space for exactly that a nice fire to entice some randoms over for a good time a chat and a smoke,

If you find yourself anywhere near pylon (plenty of room so i hear) and see a lil fire your always welcome to come an say hi, there will be well made spliffs and blunts a plenty each of them with anyones name on.

My group always has a campfire to sit around early morning when we get back from SE corner or stone circle. Firewood wasn't in such good supply last year and we ended up buying quite a lot. It's nice to invite random people into our circle for a chat and drink.

Agreed.after my visit last year I thought there wasn't many fire /campsite things going on like the old days.I always found it a big part of being at a festival to sit around into the wee hours drinking smoking and meeting sound people but I think with all the late night stuff going on more these days people want entertaining constantly and to get their money's worth so to speak .

Personally not for me, find them a bit frightening and some people use them as an excuse to take up loads of room. I don't notice the woodpile anymore at the back of the Pyramid field. Maybe it's all gone by time I get there. Anyway perhaps there's a case for a few controlled communal fires around and about. The lighting of the phoenix fire up by the stone circle was pretty impressive 2013, missed it last year, if they did the same thing.

You can still get the flare candles just head up to the stone circle/green fields at night. Think they had to clamp down on sellers to ensure they were as safe/green as possible.

As for fires, had them a few years when camping in wicket ground (pre family camping), was great fun on wednesday and thursday night. Dont see the need anymore with more stuff happening these evenings now.

back in the day, the first thing we used to do after pitching up do was get wood from the wood piles ... they still do them, but they do go quickly. 2 places i remember - bottom of muddy lane, and somewhere on the railway track....

Last year, i'm sure there was a place SELLING firewod at the back of the other stage field by the railway track... or did i just dream that? there's usually a decent fire going on in the glade and strummerville....

We still always have a large fire burning all night at the Stone Circle, it's my favourite part of Glastonbury - after the hustle and bustle of the day, it's great to get a fire going and share your stories from the day with friends and the inevitable dozens of people who stop by,

Yep we camp in Dairy, and have an inner and outer ring of tents as we have about 30 in our group. There's always enough room in the middle for a decent fire and the first thing we do when the tents are up is to go and stock up on wood. It's always nice to stumble home from your night out and find a few of your camp still going with a warm fire and some beers.

not since our move to the campervan fields - but this reminds me to collect our washing machine drum, which has been going each year, after the festival finishes for other events this summer

Well there does seem to be some interest on here. This is what they look like. As well as producing heat and light, they also can be used to boil a kettle or for a fry up.
