Not 90 mins that a casual festival crowd would enjoy, though. Any band with more than one album can play a 90 minute set.

I dunno, they have quite a few well known songs now, if the singles from the next album are as big as the last then there'd be enough hits for a casual festival crowd to enjoy the set. Almost definitely more than a Foals set I'd say.

Again going to point out I think them headlining still sounds ridiculous though.

fully expecting the 1975 and Disclosure to sub next year...

can't for the life of me think of a likely trio of headliners, I'd say Muse's tour rules them out in my mind (but it might not).

Florence and The Machine sound like a good bet imo.

Foals

Foo Fighters

Kanye West

Florence and the Machine

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Muse

Three of them tbh. Maybe Kasabian if they're stuck.

I'd be extremely happy with three of any of those. Foals / Foos / Muse would suit me perfectly. There's no way I've got the cash for a Muse ticket, I planned to see Foos at Wembley and wasn't able to make it their MK gig after they cancelled, and Foals were up there with the best acts I saw at Reading this year. I'd be the first time I'd probably see all three headliners in the same year. No doubt they'd make me cry by clashing them with NME headliners of Justice, Massive Attack and Deftones or the like..

Sub wise I think The 1975 and Disclosure will play, and again I'd be extremely pleased with that. No idea how high Bloc Party would play but I guess they could sub. Same with Shikari, I'm pretty confident they'll play but it would be something else to see their set headlining NME. If Chase & Status finish up on their new album they could sub. Jared Leto talked about 30STM almost completing the writing of a new album but again if they were booked they could sub or headline.

Apart from that list you drew up Will there are a few who I think stand an outside shot of headlining:

The Strokes

Blur or Gorrilaz

Black Sabbath

Linkin Park (after all paranoia this time last year about them possibly playing this year, the scenes if they were announced for 2016... they have a new album coming too..)

The Prodigy (could easily be argued too small, but they put on a damn good show at Ally Pally and would work even better closing a night at a festival)

if we're gonna listen to Melvin on his whole 'one of the acts is a drummer, bassist, guitarist and singer' (or whatever was said) thing, then i think that act will be the Chili Peppers. another Foals. the third i have no idea, but probably one of Muse or Foos (basically whichever one doesn't do Glastonbury, probably Muse)

Yeah I'm expecting something unexpected. Interesting how Metallica and Mumford and Sons weren't really the most rumoured early on..

Pretty sure we didn't even consider Mumford until Neil got information it could be them

He didn't say "one of the acts is..." - he said "one of the acts has..." and I would think it was purposely vague.

Besides, don't listen to Melvin. His clues for R+L and Latitude this year were bollocks.

Why would you even consider doing this?

because what else have we got to go on?

i think it'll be them regardless of his comment, though. should have a new album out by then and it's been long enough since their last disastrous headline performance that people would be willing to give them another go. also can't see them doing any of the other festivals over here
