I'd only heard one of the singles and thought it was ok. That first track was shit though.

 

Ah I loved it. That's fair enough though. I would still say they seem to have matured in it as they've embraced a more structured songwriting style and moved into a broader rock and dare I say power pop style, and the lyrics being about kinda dealing with the repercussions of being fucked up all the time rather than just being fucked up all the time. I felt old as fuck listening to the debut last time I gave it a listen despite being around the same age as the band members but this one felt like something I could still enjoy. You should try it again.

DROP EVERYTHING! Owen Pallett has another album on the way.

"New album "Island" came tumbling out of me this year and I'm hoping to get it recorded this fall and winter. We played some of the new songs with Stargaze in Berlin and Essen, just sketches for now, of what will be a very slow and sad record, perfect accompaniment to cooking meals, lying on the grass, or shivering in a bathtub.

Here is a video we made in the hallway yesterday, the track is called tentatively called "Lewis Gets Fucked Into Space" but we'll see about that title yes we will.

6th November. Outstanding live band, recorded work gets better with each album, I'm excited for this one. Although, on a crap note, their first show in Manchester since me discovering them clashes with me being in Leeds for Los Campesinos!, the lord giveth and the lord taketh away.

I can't say I have, although No One's Coming For Us has been my go-to dancing around the kitchen album for the past few months, and they've been flipping great the two times I've seen them. They all seem such likable wee scamps as well, the most fun band to happen in years.

I was also there for them at Green Man! That's the moment for me when it clicked when they're not just an indie pop band that's put out some good tunes, but something pretty rare and special. I first saw them supporting Los Campesinos! last year (they have such a great track record with support bands) and went straight to their Bandcamp page on the back of that. I'm seeing them again in Manchester next month, when they'll be supporting Speedy Ortiz, you don't get many better pairings than that (Speedy Ortiz also have a great support band track record, it was Joanna Gruesome last time they were around). I found out the other week that somebody I know down in Brizzle is casually acquainted with a couple of the band members, he was amazed that I listen to them, thought they were a bit of a half-baked hobby thing who'd fallen arse backwards onto a minor festival bill. I've instructed him to give them a listen, but his favourite band is Kings Of Leon so I don't think he'll be into it.
