If the price went up, people who couldn't afford the rise would be priced out and replaced by richer people. So essentially those people will be priced out of Glastonbury because you can't be bothered pitching a tent- is that fair? It's like me saying because I don't drink, bringing your own booze should be banned, and onsite bars triple their prices to fund a big drop in ticket prices- as long as I benefit, screw everyone else, right!

Eks101 - my point regarding atmosphere is that it's better in the heart of the festival itself. Whilst it's great around the campfire back at the tent, that's not where the best time (for me that is) is to be had. Thus I don't see it as a reason to discount WV or other places for not being "in the mix" as it were. I've enjoyed being camped up on site a lot but would say that as a result of not wanting/needing to go back to my tent/campsite I got more out of the Festival. Strictly speaking you spent an extra £168 then ;-)

The point is, no matter how people justify it to themselves, a Glastonbury ticket is still a luxury product. If somebody is on a tight budget, why are they spending so much on a festival ticket?

But hey as long you can get a prime spot and not have to trouble yourself with pitching a tent...

I'm not saying "what is good for me is good for everyone", I'm pointing out that ME wants a future of pre erected tents, and will have to fund this somehow. The reasons people stay in WV are varied and can't be boiled down to the "I can't be bothered pitching a tent" argument, ME provides a service - and judging by it's popularity, it's only going to get bigger. There are already pre-erected options inside the fence, palatial tents with showers and their own security for £900. I don't see many people bemoaning this. Once it has become established, people seem to accept it as the norm.

This is exactly why there are options ranging from free camping with your ticket to thousnds for luxury camping.

Glastonbury gives options to everyone.

And WF actually seems resonable priced compared to other options i've seen.

So are you saying that everyone who wants to spend a little more money is automatically placed in to middle or upper class?

What if ordinary folk have just saved up as this is their one outlet for the year or have medical or age reasons. Surely multiple options and trying to attract a wider audience is a better all round situation?

I don't consider myself rich, far from it. I earn my own modest way. Me and my wife are going this year and are fortunate enough to have a number of options (limited) open to us away from camping on site should we decide not to camp.. This doesn't mean we're snobs and I definitely wouldn't sneer at anybody over what they had / didn't have.

I'm genuinely really suprised at people on this thread reccomending WV - last year everyone I spoke to agreed it was very poor.and wished they were on the main site.

This is from before they put the steps in. I don't know what they are like to climb but that hill nearly did me in. I climbed it each day as I had mates staying offsite and used to walk up to meet them in the mornings.

Where people choose to stay/sleep/camp is their own choice completely.

We are still ALL going to the best festival on the planet and hopefully ALL still do our little bit to enhance the famous Glasto spirit whilst we are there.

I know, for a fact, that my wife and I do just that.

We will stay at WV, for whatever personal reasons we choose, and yet will certainly not look down on anyone else we encounter during that excellent few days at the festival, that isn't a neighbour at night.

In anycase, once inside the fence, how could you possible tell who is who and who stays where?

I've done both, WV this year and TF last year. WV is better for me for the following:

No pass out system/having to carry your ticket around all day. In WV you just have a different wrist band and you come and go as you please.

You definitely should not factor this into any decisions.

Giving EPO wristbands to Worthy View residents was a new thing for 2014 due to concern over the massive increase in numbers (they used the standard 3 part pass-out system before that), and my understanding is that it caused far more headaches than it solved.

I'd certainly expect it to change for 2015, but I don't know what form that'd take.

Yes they are technically I suppose but Ive no interest in a 2nd hand tent for 150 quid.

Basically yeah. A waterproof and soundproof tipi with a fridge, an en suite and a shower. And scantily clad Persian women feeding me fruit. Most of which I aggressively refuse in favour of laying a severe beat down on my nervous houseboy.

I'd tent it but the missus won't. And I'm not keen on paying for or staying in a van. Bored of them now. Hate having to leave the festival. They're ridiculously pricey, small and you can end up fucking miles away.

Best place I've stayed is in a tent up at the back of Michaels Mead which we did for a few years.

This year. Miles away. A mazey winding walk to E16. Right at the fence into blue car park 9. Nearly a 20 minute walk after the hill of death. An hour round trip to the Pyramid.

I calculated that in 5 days I spent 6-7 hours just walking outside of the festival to get to the van. An entire day wasted basically.

Somone suggested that in the future of WV coming inside the fence into the prime bits of normal camping/being all pre erected camping. (Which to be fair is the inevitable conclusion of something like the current glamping sites. As those who can afford start asking why they have such a long trek.)

That view is spectacular but just remember you've got to walk up it at 5am in the morning.

Glad you agree, so you can see what I am saying now why ME might not want to just increase the price so the people who cba carrying and putting tent up are closer and why not everyone has extra hundred quid so laying around?

WV sold out in record time, so why wouldn't ME want to do it? people are clearly willing to pay extra to camp in a pre erected tent outside the fence. I bet he could charge double for the same in Pennards and still sell in minutes.

And yes, anyone who can afford to "scrape" £220 plus travelling costs plus food plus a tent plus sleeping bag to go to a festival could afford another hundred or so.
