Managed to get 6 tickets for an efester after about 10 mins.............on our rural broadband of 1.2 mb/s! Never got through before.

No its not. I have servers with what effectively amounts to gigabit ethernet connections to the internet I hop off, and have everything down to using 4G on my phone. Its pot luck what gets through.

I beg to differ. Started off at 9 in my friends house and got all sorts of problems loading pages. He is on Sky Broadband. Legged it round the corner to my house after his laptop died and I was constantly getting instant refreshes on the holding page until it sold out. I have Virgin 50mps fibre optic.

I also don't think speed has anything to do with it, all I got was error mesages on the laptop, but on my phone with wifi off and only using 3G it was really quick and easy. rural broadband is about 5meg, 3G is 1meg i've just done a speedtest

yep, my mate in the styx on an ancient falling apart laptop got ours using a dongle and a really dodgy internet connection. I got nowhere with my 'superfast' broadband and multiple computers and tablets etc.

That's also a different ISP, who's to say that isn't what made the difference?

My phone on 4G was getting through to the holding page a lot quicker/more frequently than my fibre broadband.

Actually got through on the fibre though.

It doesnt make any difference at all. TCP is a democratic protocol first in first out. We had connections from 4 different ISPs and 1 Gb company connection. Got tix on a samsung tablet on the slowest ISP

I got through on sky fibre 36mb using mac book and safari. Parter got through on 4g phone tethered to laptop. It's just luck I think.

Pot luck end of...3 of us tried and I had all sorts on the go(every trick in book)...I didn't get in, other two did with one window open on shonky equipment. Pot luck.

Yeah that was my point - it's not the speed, it's not the ISP, it's not howling at the moon while drinking cans of festival strength brothers.

Definitely luck. Believe it now and always have. No ticket for me but I was only one of our gang who managed to get and keep the holding page without it freezing and I was in the Atlantic on an island in a storm using my phone's hotspot! Bonkers!

I was firing in on ridiculous corporate connection at some ridiculous speed, refreshing 3 separate browsers on a 2 second basis that has seen good in previous years, and resales. Not a sniff. Brother got through on a 4G connection.

Im no techie, but I plugged the ethernet cable into my Imac (Sky Fibre)

And had my work laptop on wifi,and my ipad on wifi

The website refreshed really slowly on all the devices apart from the imac -

Got through at 9.05

Then got back in at 9.20 for friends both on the mac, all other devices never got a sniff

I've got BT infinity @ 75mbps but got nothing on my PC not even a holding page. We also had 2 iPads going and had as many holding pages as we wanted off the same wifi

3 devices running side by side, 1 on Google chrome with 6 tabs open but none connecting to holding page.

2 iPads on same wifi with 6 tabs open on each all on holding page.

Coincidence?

Of course there's luck but it is not the only factor imo

It's a case of 50/50 nowadays, either the door is open or it's closed. Keep trying the door for long enough and at the correct time it'll open.

A faster internet connection means you can refresh more often so surely that makes a difference?
