Here's something maybe one of you guys can help with, last year on the first day of the festival it took ages to get through the festival gates, there was just such a huge crowd gathered outside but it didn't seem to be a queue for anything as it never moved, we ended up pushing through after about 40 minutes and got into the festival with no issues after that. Went down on the Friday ready to fight my way in again but there was no crowd, was able to just walk right on in. Is it always so difficult to access the festival gates on the first day or was there something else happening last year?

Hi!

I ended up on this forum while googling for tips about RW.

I was there in 2009 just for the day when Oasis was playing and had a total blast! This year I really wanted to go but I couldn't find anyone that wanted to join so in the end I bought my tickets and will be going there by myself.

I decided to go for the XL camping because you can access the campings on Wednesday and they will also give you the festival wristband then. I remember that I had to wait a very looooooooooooooong line in 2009 when I got there on Thursday. They gave us water while waiting but the heat was terrible.

Is there anyone also going there alone? Or someone that went alone in the past? Would be great if you could share some tips!

I'm going alone too. Never been to this festival alone before though so I can't really give any tips seeing as each festival is different. I did the same thing with the XL camping seeing as it was only a few euros more. Can't wait though it should be epic!

It's always a bit busier on the first day, yes. Those without an XL camping ticket (and part of those who have one) can only get their festival wristbands on Thursday. So it takes longer to get through the gates with all those people waiting to get a wristband attached.

Hi peeps,

I am English but have been living in Belgium for the past 2 years with my Belgian boyfriend (who speaks English fluently) and going to festivals for the past 4 years.

I know its quite daunting sometimes going to festivals where everyone around you speaks a language you don't understand and in all honesty after living here so long its nice to just talk with some native english speakers xD. So if anyone fancies meeting for a chat and some drinks we will waving the "Camp Mojo" flag in one of the standard camping sites at Rock Werchter. For any more information just send me a PM.

- Maria :bye:

Great to hear I am not the only one in the same situation! If you'd like we could try to be camping neighbours. I am Spanish but I speak english fluently.

Sure, everybody's got to have some camping neighbours, why not fellow lone travelers, perhaps even share a beer or two!

This is going to be my fourth Rock Werchter and I still don't know why they have a check in/out system.

Is it so they can monitor how many people are inside the arena at any one time or purely to make sure fake tickets/wristbands don't get through?

It's one of the great enigmas of history. They say it actualises Facebook profiles (with sentence such as "I am at RW14, Robert Plant and Pearl Jam gave amazing shows, It's time for Kings of Leon") but it didn't work for me.

Yeah, but the facebook updates are done via the little log in booths within the arena. I was wondering why we have to check in and out at the arena entrances.

They get really snotty when you try going through without beeping your wristband.

I accidentally went down the female lane in to the arena one year, fairly drunk and also forgot to scan my wristband. Some woman in a security coat jumped in front of me and knee'd me in the balls. Couldn't believe it.

I have a feeling we might be in for a bit of a wait but I'm no mind reader.

There could be a few things effecting how and when RW can announce certain acts; ticket sales, album news, tour tickets etc...

If sales are still quite low, they might throw some more names in the mix soon but who knows...

Pukkelpop is probably having a massive announcement on Monday or Tuesday, so it's likely that we won't get any RW names next week. Another package this Friday would make sense then.

I don't get why they avoid announcing the same week as PP, surely they should want to get more names out to try and draw ticket sales away from PP?

Which acts do you expect for Pukkelpop? Strokes/Libertines/Robbie?

No expert on this festival but think others have said it's normally March/April. The initial announcements were really strong but last few have been disappointing.

Others on here with a better knowledge will probably give you a better indication.

Thanks a lot mate, I'm looking at buying tickets at the end of this month, when I'll get paid. Not feeling overly optimistic now though.

For me and the big group of people I am going with, we really need some heavier bands! If we missed Royal Blood on Saturday afternoon and Cat Empire on Friday afternoon (I know both not that heavy) we could have 2 whole days in Leuven because the rest of the days are shite (OK maybe come back at night on the Saturday for Prodigy).

Foos and Muse getting announced early on (and the name of the festival) led us down the wrong path. I'm sure the line up was much heavier last time I visited Werchter... Get EODM and Pixies there!!!

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
    • Here's a bit of a wild stab, few placings may be off, and for all I know half of these won't actually be touring next year, but screw it, it's a bit of fun   Pyramid: Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, TBA (Florence + The Machine), Garbage, The Last Dinner Party, Interpol, Alex James Britpop Classical Other: Chase & Status, Teddy Swims, Clairo, The Kooks, Zara Larsson, Kingfishr, Sports Team, Orbital West Holts: Robyn, Baby Keem, De La Soul, Deltron 3030, JID, Dua Saleh, kwn, Daniela Latila Woodsies: Bonobo, Darkside, TBA (Tame Impala), Laufey, Warmduscher, Wednesday, The Lottery Winners, The Royston Club, Florence Road Park: Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Slayyyter, The Cardigans, Skye Newman, Kelly Lee Owens, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers   Pyramid: Harry Styles, The xx, Richard Ashcroft, The Pogues, Jessie J, Sigrid, Travis Other: Rosalia, Sombr, Mitski, Alex Warren, Holly Humberstone, Cat Burns, Pale Waves, Yard Act West Holts: Basement Jaxx, Elyanna, Clipse, L’Imperatrice, Nation of Language, Jim Legxacy, Yazmin Lacey, RIP Magic Woodsies: Suede, Chvrches, Bleachers, MUNA, The Cribs, Keo, Bleech 9:3, The Lilacs Park: MARINA, Magdalena Bay, Jacob Alon, TBA (Lily Allen performs West End Girl), Getdown Services, Isaac Wood, Snail Mail, Madra Salach Pyramid: Sam Fender, Hozier, David Byrne, Cher, Obongjayar, David Gray, Billy Ocean Other: Doja Cat, Deftones, Addison Rae, Ren, Viagra Boys, Maisie Peters, The Reytons, Hard Life West Holts: Kano, Thievery Corporation, Angine De Poitrine, Thee Sacred Souls, Brooke Combe, Sasha Keable, Master Peace Woodsies: The Wombats, Metronomy, Geese*, Dry Cleaning, EsDeeKid, Sienna Spiro, Cowboy Hunters, Radio Free Alice Park: Big Thief, Laura Marling, MJ Lenderman, Richard Dawson, Oklou, Maruja, Dead Dads Club, Ratboys   *There's always one band booked for Woodsies that ends up being massively under-billed and gets shut down really early. They'd be better off playing somewhere like Other sub, but I could see the G getting them to play a smaller stage while it's still possible
    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
