Err, I find that very hard to believe. I just assumed any non-caucasians weren't even allowed to register by GFL, I didn't see any all weekend.

I'm a white middle class male, at the top end of middle aged, but a lot of my students are from BME communities and also include a fair number of refugees and asylum seekers. I tend to count, in passing, the number of non-white punters I see at Glasto. A few years ago it was on the fingers of one hand. This year it was fingers and a few toes.

But still the number of non-white performers and and staff/traders probably outnumbers punters about 10:1.

You never know what might happen but as soon as you start worrying about such things you have let the 'terrorists' win, their sole aim is to psychologically damage a society, to cause as much disruption and fear as possible. Whatever happens, all you need to do to is think to yourself that the chances of it happening are or were so unlikely anyway that it was never even worth worrying about in the first place, and that could be anywhere, on a tube, at a marathon, a festival, chances are that it will never happen to you so don't let it change how you approach life, stick a big finger up to them.

The MO is identical. Spread fear through violence. The IRA managed it regularly, yet the so called radical Islamists cannot. Why not?

And they have the advantage of being prepared to die themselves in the attack making the whole thing even easier to undertake.

If the threat was actually real of course.

This is make me look really daft when I come barreling in and go "yeah, well my black mate said", but it's somewhat relevant, so here goes...

My friend, who is black, is really up for coming to Primavera next year. Him and brother were both really impressed with the Glastonbury line-up, and they are the people who have asked me most about Glastonbury, they seem really interested. I told them they should come next year, he said to me "only white people camp", like really matter-of-factly and his brother just instantly agreed without flinching. I am not for one minute saying that this one man, (who is nearly permanently soused, and not traditionally a person I ask for considered cultural insight) is representative of a large chunk of our nation's population, but this struck me as an interesting thing to say. In all honesty it made me a bit uncomfortable to hear him just reflexively write-off Glastonbury as exclusively for white people, but these are just the views of one man, I didn't think it tactful to start putting it across to other people "Oy, what is it like to be black?", that would make me a cretin.

At present Festival Insurers seem to be providiing terrorism cover free of charge to festival organisers ., so it shows the low perceived risk at a festival.

A business would have to pay for this extension of cover

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
