was thinking of going to this

does anyone know what the situation with campervans is? Are they outside the main fence like glastonbury?

Also how strict are they with the amount of Alcohol you take in?

Cheers

The CV field definetly inside the fence. I am told (from a friend involved in the old school garage sound system) is staying in the same spot as last year but with more facilities for water and loos. Based on the first google image posted it would be bottom right hand corner of the photo behind the tress that are on the slope)

there was a lovely viewing area up there with webbed seats/hammocks. a nasty hill/travalator or steps to climb to bed but nothing like the distance of Glasto to CV

Alcohol was strict for campers in terms of 1 crate of beer/cider etc. We like most had copious sprits in plastic in rucksack and weren't checked. There was sniffer dogs on the main gate we walked in.

My friend in CV brought in his 5th wheel and the cops and security went over it with a fine tooth comb. all sides extended, cupboards and safe even emptied. 2 dogs through it. the security and cops didn't mind the 7 crates of ale but were determined to find something. little did they know he gave all that up years ago and just likes a bed to kip in. let him in 3 hrs later :)

was a top festival - going again this year

Boomtown or Bestival? Boomtown price for ticket and travel is a lot better than Bestival but is Bestival worth the extra money?

depends if you just have to see big famous hip bands, or not.

Boomtown is the better festival, but plenty would choose what they regard as the better music.

I really, really have to go to this festival next year (sadly too late this year). I've got a mate who is going for the first time this year so I will see what he thinks of it (he'll love it I reckon).

Still amazed Farmer Bruce lets this festival on his land these days - he used to be quite hostile to these sort of things back in the 80's...

is that the guy who owns Matterley?

He's been absolutely desperate to have a successful festival on his land for over 15 years - there's been quite a few different ones held there over the years.

Off the top of my head...

1. Creamfields.

2. Homelands.

3. Glade Festival

4. Hi-Fi

5. Boomtown.

There might be others too.

Yeah, I knew it had been used for other festivals before Boomtown but I didn't realise it went quite that far back tbh. Met Mr. Bruce and his daughter Minna way back in the early 90's when he very much had a 'fuck off hippies' attitude to any people who wanted to explore the crop circles that appeared yearly in the "Punch Bowl" (as they used to call the Cheesefoot Head amphitheatre field where the festival is held - not to be confused with the one with the same name in Surrey btw). Used to be all planted with winter wheat in there every year and I think Mr. Bruce used to get pretty pissed off with people just walking onto his land without asking permission and damaging the crop and he didn't like the whole crop circles publicity thing either, so perhaps that helped manufacture his attitude at the time. Clearly this has changed though - I wonder how much he gets out of holding the festival on his land - he always struck me as a typically 'financially astute' farmer (like the majority of farmers are I reckon).

Is this travelator worth the purchase to climb the hill?

Can you buy tickets/wristbands for them when you're down there?

I personally wouldn't go for the travelator however I can see why people do it as for some extra cost it does save you from walking up the horrific hill time after time. I'd say it's depends on age mainly as from what i saw last year a lot of the older audience used it whereas the younger lot (such as myself) battled with the hill. The hill was pretty difficult to get up at times but did provide some entertainment depending on your situation :sarcastic:

I turn 33 the day before the festival and I'm not exactly in shape either!

The hill is really tough and gets harder as the days go on, you've got options though, you can take it slowly which would make it easier & at the other side of the site there are stairs going up through the woods, they are also hard work but you might find them easier than the hill? The travelator looks great in theory but I saw it break down on a couple of occasions last year & at other times there was a decent sized queue to get on it!

It is only £10 though isn't it so it might depend on how bothered you are to spend that before you make your decision!

Hope this helps!

The hill was very tough yeah and did take a lot of effort to scale. Whilst we were lucky to have had beautiful weather for the whole weekend last year it did make it even more difficult to climb as the road became very dusty and in some places unstable under foot. Then again, if it were to piss it down for the entire weekend then it would be just as difficult.

There were quite a few times where I looked over at the travelator with envy.

in reply to whether you can buy the magic carpet ticket things when you're there, they just put something on Facebook saying get them in advance. Also last year I don't think I actually ever remember seeing it working haha! but they also said they are making improvements.

I went and had a look at the site the other day and its looking pretty cool :) when I work out how to post pictures I will post one.

seriously though, it's a bloody amazing festival!

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
