Panicking about T Day

Guest rischbrit

Recommended Posts

We had such a great time this year and have already been thinking about next year. However the dreaded T Day and the whole mad rush panic to get tickets (we got ours on resale) is in a couple of months

Any hints/tips/advice? Broadband vs 3G? Phone vs online or is it just a case of F5 constantly?

How about setting up some kind of list/chat thing (sorry in shit at computer speak) to help others once you have got your ticket?

f5 constantly. There is no guaranteed way of improving your chances.

Some get lucky and some don't, and those that get lucky want to believe they've done something special while those that don't get lucky like to think they've somehow been penalised.

But that's bollocks. That's simply the result of the luck of the draw.

One decent internet connection - doesn't make a difference if it's broadband or 3G, but it does need to be usable and the quicker (in terms of latency) the better., don't share it if you can avoid it, and refresh a lot.

Lists are helpful for distributing the load.

Would I be right in saying the coach packages are slightly easier in getting tickets? At least they appear to be due to the variables on destinations, times and days leaving.

Each time we've gotten coach tickets it's been within a few minutes of them going on sale - 2013 in second resale, 2014 in main sale.

It is pot luck at the end of the day though.

The best way to increase your chances is to get a good syndicate of people together. What we have found through the years is that once someone is in and able to book a ticket, their session sticks for a while and they can continue booking more tickets.

So we have everyone's details all pre-exchanged in a spreadsheet and keep in close contact through the critical period when they go on sale. As soon as someone is in they start buying and cover most of us, then someone else will usually get in and hoover up the rest.

This is not guaranteed to get you a ticket but I think it certainly improves the odds. Put it this way, we've never failed, everyone in our group has always got a ticket.

I'm hoping the weather and lack of 'big mainstream' style headliner might hopefully have put off a few casual punters*

*clutching at straws

I don't think you are, actually.

By nature, festies have stronger years for their line-up and weaker years for their line-up. This year was defo a weaker year for its line-up.

And following on from a mega strong year with the stones, that will have made some people lower their glasto interest.

Then add-in that 2013 was perfect weather and this year wasn't, and again that will have reduced interest - both from those watching on TV, and from those that were there this year.

And it'll help if Eavis doesn't blabber out some bollocks about having the best bands in the world as he did at the end of last summer.

So .... I reckon that demand will have dropped off by a significant amount for the next T-Day compared to the last T-Day.

That 'significant amount' isn't likely to be so big that everyone can get the tickets they want, but I reckon it'll be noticeable all the same.

Thinking about T-Day does actually make my stomach drop, I can't miss out again :(

I'm going to have to try for Coach tickets if they are on sale a few days before and my biggest regret was turning my nose up at them this year...Damn!

Arcade Fire - Nah. It was a big gig, but no more special than coachella.

Metallica - I think it was a big deal. They proved their point. You could tell by the speech about "this is for all uk heavy bands who dream of this etc..." Whether it was the night if their lives, Im not saying that - but a very special one? Certainly.

Kasabian - I don't think sunday will ever be topped for them to be honest. Me and my mate weren't going to go to see them, but nothing really appealled. Pleased I ventured to the Pyramid.

First time Ive ever seen all 3 Pyramid headliners.

The best Pyramid atmospheres Ive ever been in too.

That'd be my gut feel as well.....but a surge of interest on the AC/DC front might pick up the slack.

I doubt it's true.

I know with certainty that Glasto will not be making an approach to AC/DC to headline, so if it were to happen it would have to be 100% driven from the band's end of things.

Then again, perhaps that's what's happened. Maybe there's a show or two left in Malcolm yet, and the band has decided a worldwide broadcast from Glasto is a way for everyone to share it. There's all sorts of possibilities.

What's your take on the Peter Mensch thing? Reported in the Independent that he was the booker / manager that Michael watched Metallica with on the Saturday evening.

Mensch is Metallica's manager, so it's hardly a surprise that Michael might spend some/all of the set stood next to him.

Does he do AC/DC too, then?

As I understand it, any future shows will be without Malcolm.

yep, that's my impression too.

Tho I met someone at Glasto (can't remember who, dammit) who insisted that Malcolm had cancer, and hadn't had a stroke (which is the general presumption, but without concrete confirmation). If that's the case then I'd guess there's still perhaps the chance of him playing again.

    • Mac DeMarco also cancelled
    • I'm British so it very much would apply for me.   I mean, it's a moot point as I don't have tickets so will not be in town for this, but I've heard reports of lengthy queues and given I remember Lisbon Airport having a long queue at arrivals even pre-EES when I went in 2023, I seem to guess it might be quite the wait, depending on flight paths.   Certainly, the worst I've had pre-EES was a 45 minute wait for a stamp at Valencia Airport in Spain, where 4 flights to non-EU destinations in quick succession were placed one after the other. So I can't say I'm enthusiastic about what's in store. Or you know. Maybe I'm just overthinking it.
    • Out of interest keep seeing messages saying last 12 hours etc… to buy you full weekend tickets.  Whats that about? Do they take them off sale early?
