Stone Circle

It''s sad what a horrible place this has become now. Didn't go this year as I went last year and was horrified what a tip it had become and knew this year would be no different. Not heard a good word about it this year either. Litter, nos cannisters, uncomfortable atmosphere....I'm not sure how they can change it but it's become almost the focal point for the worst aspects of the festival.

The 'Glastonbury sign' field above Park has become my new 'stone circle' where I sit and look over the site and wonder about life and stuff.

should have went up to see for yourself, that was my 15th Glastonbury.. the atmosphere on the wednesday night was amazing. It was genuinely the first time in years i rarely heard a "pfffffsssssss" (or however youd describe the noise of a gas cannister, rather than it happening every 2 seconds. yes it was there, but nowhere near what your describing and the atmosphere was superb for the fireworks and lighting of the phoenix.

Oh sorry. I didn't realise I wasn't allowed to post an opinion based on my experience last year compared to previous years and what people had told me about it this year. Perhaps the Wednesday and Thursday nights are better but come Friday and Saturday, the main festival nights you could say, and the place is a tip.

For future reference, I'll bear in mind that I'm only allowed to have opinions about something I have up to date personal experience of.

I've been up there the last three years and I agree with the OP.

Too many Dalston w.ankers doing balloons up there (inc some people I know). It has attracted a new "cool" crowd who just sit up there getting totally wasted and leaving their rubbish around.

Not sure I'd rush back next year. I want to take in that magical view without all that going on around me.

Not been since 2009, was up there for at least part of most nights. Great vibe, no more canisters then anywhere else and a great supply of recreationals on Wednesday and Thursday.

Was worried after all the FUD I had read on here, only thing I noticed was it's a bit quieter, not suprising with flagtopia and the park hill to compete with.

I went up to the stone circle and it utterly depressed the hell out of me and almost brought me to tears. I showed Keithy the pics the next day so he does have a valid point as in why would he go when the evidence proves that it would be pointless? Awful and dirty and frankly fucking disgraceful abuse of what should be a beautiful spot!

It's still magic but there were a LOT of those little metal cannisters. I went on Saturday & Sunday mornings and in the evening on Saturday. And I found a £5 note (nowhere near any people, otherwise I'd've asked). If you lost a £5 note you'll be pleased to hear it went on a pint of Otter Ale, and there was 50p left for a cup deposit at Small World.

There was also a few people up there with battery powered amps. I remember when it was all drums. And before that when there were battery powered amps.

I went a few times and could see the appeal but it was spoilt by the crowd it attracts. I honestly don't get what's up with this cannister nonsense. Does it actually have any effect? I grew suspicious that some were doing it just because they wanted everyone to hear the noise and realise they were doing it - it felt like the world's most pathetic clique.

That said, I heard a lot of cannisters on Park Hill as well as kids shouting if anyone is selling any Ketamine. I don't judge them - most of them are just kids experimenting, but it's really sad and disappointing that so many go to a place as magical as the Stones and feel the need to add to the experience. What could possibly add to a moment like that? The sun is coming up and you're at some ancient stones overlooking the best place to be in the world for five days, knowing you're part of it. Do you really need to get out of your face at that moment?

    • I wonder if he's going to get into the States for the second match against England. Seems a bit weird having players missing for certain matches but not others as the world cup moves around.
    • Quite lucky as I’ve no interest in Halsey at all so I’ve got time for some food and drink before getting in there.   But yeah… thinking I’ll have to leave early to get a decent spot for Gorillaz
