Its the "oh lets have the same band again" mentality that facilitates that booking.

I think its a tad different wanting a band to headline 12 years after they last did compared to actually having a band headline 4 years after they did it last (with a fallow year stuck in there!); the same band that also did it 10 years ago and 3 before that............

Wow. I come here for some sanity from a Facebook thread where people are laughing at Glastonbury booking Coldplay and stating "Reading/Leeds has trumped Glasto again!" and people are questioning the suitability of a headline set from Radiohead?

What the fuck is happening to my day?

IMO Reckoner is their best song.

It's up there with How to Disappear Completely and Fake Plastic Trees (my favourite is any of those 3)

Radiohead wouldn't please everybody, but they'd still put on a marvellous set. A bit like Arcade Fire last year

Radiohead headlining would make total sense if generic crowd pleasers Coldplay and Foo Fighters are headlining too

Well thats a good point yeah.

Even the most hardcore Radiohead fan would have to admit they dont have the same mass appeal they once did. But when the other two headliners are conveyor belt pleasentless Radiohead arent a bad thing I suppose.

Id still prefer someone who hasnt played before though.

Caveat on the above, me and Nal only stumbled into the crowd at Coldplay as the Go Team! had rubbish sound issues in the JP.

Was there myself. Did not seem that big of a crowd from our vantage point. It was pants so we buggered of to the Dance Village to get mashed...........I do not know what happen next! Good Times! ???@@??

Was huge. We walked from the Peel side all the way round to the Cider Bus. Took ages. Sing-a-longs everywhere.

Like Swift?

Id still prefer someone "half decent" who hasnt played before though.

We were over near the cider bus direction too. If I recall properly (and thats a big if) there was masses of open spaces due to the fucked up ground. Big pools of water etc etc so there was crowded pockets but also massive spaces with no one in them.

I clearly remember a load of grumpy dicks sitting on seats and there was not a sinner near them due to the mud/water they were sitting in...............

Tell this to Depeche Mode. If any British band deserves to play Glastonbury then it is them but they seemingly have no interest.

Why would anyone not want to do Glasto? Surely it's the pinnacle of every musician's career.

In regards to Radiohead, I suppose they are like Marmite as there is no in between with them.

I appreciate their ability with their instruments and their willingness for experimentation. But their music just leaves me cold. I have always thought of Thom Yorke as a poor man Ian Curtis.

I would not watch them at Glastonbury as they are really not my thing. But they seem to be well respected and have a huge following. I would rather they play than Coldplay as appearing as many times as they have is pretty ridiculous.

Oh yeah the crowds were fucked up that year because of the mud.

Was that the year he changed the lyrics in Politik to "the best festival in historeeeeeeeeeeeeee"?

It was tongue-in-cheek, I know full well that it isn't the pinnacle of every musician's career and that there are many reasons why people might not want to play it. Hell, there are even bands that have played the festival that claim other festivals are their favourite! Even R&L!

Why Depeche Mode or any band would 'deserve' to play Glasto is also beyond me; is a Glasto spot something that has the be 'earned' and 'achieved'? The only criteria for 'deserving' to play is whether they're popular, cheap and willing enough. It appears that Depeche Mode fail on at least one of those three.

    • So we've signed a Horny Czech, and Bruno's turned up the training camp instead of doing Isak's nonsense.   Still not sure I believe Bruno's staying mind, but glad he's not doing the sh*t Arsenal are asking him to do to lower the price. If they want him they can stump up.   My suspicion is that whichever of Madrid/Man City don't start next season with Rodri will go for Bruno, and one of them will come in while Arsenal have f**ked about trying to get him cheap, which while I absolutely want to keep him, would still be good enough bants and a nice middle finger that I wouldn't mind it so much. I just wish we'd report Arsenal for tapping up.   If rumours are to be believed, we're after 2 more defensive signings, and an attacking player, on top of a replacement if Bruno leaves, having already signed a LW, 2 CMs, a GK, and some youth players. Huge churn, but apart from a couple of Bazou Toure's games for Ivory Coast at the world cup, I've not seen any of them play. Over 2 summers we've basically changed our entire team aside from the CBs.
    • I think the level of headliners Bloodstock get is varied    There's been bands who have gone on to play Download in quite a low spot like Meshuggah, Behemoth, Opeth etc.    Then they've had years like 2025 where you can argue that all three headliners are download main stage sub level    Knocked Loose right now i'd argue are 3rd down on main/opus headliner level while EC and FFDP are borderline main stage sub
