I can't decide at this point if its more worrying to have good or bad weather outside the window.

Saw this info graphic that it was the days before that caused the year of mud in 1997 not rain during the fest. So good weather outside the window now and during the festival needed.

From view from some guy on Netweather..

"Morning,

I'm really encouraged by the models , they have been somewhat changeable recently , but iv never bought the Scandi trough/Greenland high idea effecting us as much as was forecast .
As in winter time things normally get watered down and this is the case again , obviously summer time is a different set up with the weak jet stream etc but I always thought things would temper down somewhat . The gfs picked up on this yesterday with keeping the high pressure more centrally based , and thankfully it looks like this could be the form horse next week , after the horrific winter we really could with a nice summer and since march really the weather has been quite kind to us . Quite optimistic of a nice second half to June with more emphasis on hot/humid Spanish plumes toward the last third with low pressure pushing north from bay of biscay bringing hot but thundery weather with it. But as ever time will tell . "

The Metro today states:

The Met Office three month forecast has predicted that this summer will be warmer than usual with a good chance of it being the hottest ever. Suppose that doesn't mean no rain though

They say that every year just to get attention!

I can assure you from many years experience that it is rain plus thousands and thousands of feet that causes the mud at Glastonbury! Drainage is far better now than it was in '97 but it was torrential on the Friday of '97 and so the pattern starts!

It can rain for a long time ahead of the gates opening and whilst it will be muddy where vehicles have churned up some of the ground if it stops raining at 8am on the Wednesday there will not be the type of mud which we have seen in the worst years.

In my opinion we need not care about the weather now until the gates open as it makes little difference - but if it rains persistently for a number of hours during the festival it will be terribly muddy unless everyone is in bed or stands completely still until it stops!

But it's those feet walking through the mud that dry the site out when the sun does show up. 2011 Was a nightmare to traverse, but a dry & windy Saturday followed by a blazing Sunday with people stirring the mud up meant you could actually sit on the floor by Sunday afternoon. The worst bits left were where people weren't walking.

It was wet before the Friday, so it turned to a real mudbath. In 2005, the ground was bone-dry and despite a month's rainfall, you could sit on the ground again by the Monday (which was unfortunately too late)

The ground being bone dry was probably one of the main factors in Pennards flooding,a sudden amount of rain will roll straight over dry ground but if it was already damp it would soak in a bit and wouldn't of been so bad.

If breezy and vaguely sunny, mud dries very quickly at Glasto with the drainage.

The mud last year on the Wednesday and thurs was dry by Friday and stayed dry all weekend.

Even if it rains and there's mud the last 3 years have shown it can dry quickly.

Was it muddy last year?

Don't remember it being a problem - I don't think I wore wellies once.

it was pretty dry in the lead up - and cold - remember that much.

Definitely wasn't muddy last year. It was bone dry and dusty as hell on the Wednesday, then it chucked it down Wednesday night and Thursday morning and then dried up again. This was the best possible scenario really as the rain dampened all the dust but wasn't enough to turn the place in to a mudbath.

That's what I thought.

2009 chucked it down on Thursday and it did get a bit muddy, but that dried up by the Friday afternoon. 2009 scenario feels the most likely at the moment, barring extreme weather events of any kind!

Fascinating that the NFR NFC thread has only had 130,000 views compared to this thread's 170,000.

Many, many lurkers interested in the science.

We're just more stealthy than you lot with your obvious title :sarcastic:

2009 or 2013 would do me nicely.

2009 was my first year and the only real issue was the downpour on the Sunday night making the miserable journey back to the car even more miserable than it already was!

It most definitely was muddy last year. Was going to head to the Park Thursday night but couldn't be arsed to stomp through the mud. It dried up towards the end of Friday.

Damn right - Arcadia was a mess Thursday night.

Welly wearing last few years:

2007: Every day all day from Thursday afternoon

2008: Thursday and Friday - off by Saturday afternoon

2009: Thursday evening and most of Friday, Off by Friday evening. Back on Sunday night.

2010: Wellies?

2011: Wednesday to Saturday - off by Saturday evening

2013: Thursday to Friday lunchtime - off by Friday afternoon

That's probably because of the amount of drivel being posted on there, some of its funny but clicking onto it only to see ''bump'' on every other post has got a bit tedious.

Quality not quantity. :)

I've spent 20 years filming events outside and the one thing that my experience has shown me is that the long range weather forecast is almost always inaccurate, although the same thing can usually be said about the short range forecast too.

Same here,I have seen forecasts predict rain all day but have gone into work anyway only for there to be not a drop all day and still very overcast.

It aint raining til its raining.
