Snoop is the biggest rap act to have played glasto IMO and what a show he put on. I'm not in to rap at all anymore but, like every kid I was when I was younger so I went along to see him and was blown away. I wouldn't consider Kanye or Jay Z bigger than Snoop.

...........Another thought I had was IF Metallica and Kasabian were to clash then I think Kasabian would pull the bigger crowd.

At Glastonbury, you'd be spot on with saying that (outside of Glasto would be a different consideration) - tho the situation might change if Kasabian played other and Metallica played Pyramid. There's an awful lot of people who will go to the see the main headliner just because they're the main headliner.

Just out of interest, has there ever been a Pyramid headliner that had the crowd leaving in droves- usually they just seem to go silent and still- has any headliner ever triggered an exodus?

I suppose Gorillaz is the obvious one. Which I really enjoyed, in spite of the drift away - maybe Friday was the wrong night but it was pretty unforgettable seeing Lou Reed, Mark E Smith, Snoop Dogg and half the Clash up there with our Damon.

Not a fan but I think Kanye would be an inspired booking considering the alternatives being discussed. At least it might be remembered in a couple of years time...

Gorillaz was such an enormous dissapointment for me.

They have 2-3 songs that people have heard of. Like Metallica.

whilst Metallica may not have that many well known songs to the general public, their performance will far overshadow Gorillaz (who's entire show consisted of guests walking on and off stage and people bumbling about - plus they just didn't have the material to pull of a headline show to begin with, whilst Metallica certainly do)

Why would anyone watch The Gorillaz when The Flaming Lips were playing? ;)

Anyway, Metallica is a bit different to The Gorillaz. I think there will be people there to, how do the youngsters put it, cross them off of their bucket list?!

I will be there. All of my mates who are not metal heads and love a wide range of music are all buzzing at the prospect of Metallica playing. I think they are being underestimated a bit here...

I didn't see Gorillaz (went to see Flaming Lips instead), but I find it odd that out of all the rubbish headlining the Pyramid over the years, the biggest exodus seems to have been for Gorillaz- they weren't that bad surely!

they weren't THAT bad. people just weren't interested - they didn't have enough well known tunes to keep people's attention (and saved the two most well known ones for right at the end, but by that time it was too late) and the special guests on each song, which should've been amazing (i remember being very excited about it beforehand) seemed messy and the likes of Lou Reed, Mark E Smith etc were met with a massive 'who?' from a lot of the crowd unfortunately (plus their contributions to the songs were a bit shit to begin with)

He probably has 7 or 8 massive songs, and another 4 or 5 very well known.

Off the top of my head: All Falls Down, Slow Jamz, Jesus Walks, Through The Wire, Touch The Sky, Gold Digger, Stronger, Heard 'Em Say, Heartless, Love Lockdown, Power, All Of The Lights, Diamonds Are Forever, Can't Tell Me Nothing

Good Life

They weren't bad at all - suffered from raised expectations following Blur's triumph the year before and a lack of singalong anthems. It was memorable but not good for a buzzing crowd at Glastonbury on Friday night. I was sitting on the hill after a 'tiring' day and enjoyed it all. Standing near the front it would have been a struggle to engage...

I think if the headliners were Arcade Fire, Metallica & Kanye West, surely that would be the most diverse set of headliners Glastonbury will have managed to achieve? Three hugely different headliners in terms of their genres of music.

Gorillaz were great, fantastic collection of artists, lovely to see Lou reed, but quite niche like a lot of the not so successful headliners.

But then there aren't many bands that have a collection of classics and can engage the crowd. Gorillaz had neither

its not that i don't understand why people like his music but his nonsensical ranting is surely enough to put most people off? one of my friends went to see him last year and said that at one point he just shouted rubbish at them for 10 minutes...

and that is the main reason why I think he is an extremely risky booking,

but as some other posts have said it could definitely be a water cooler moment

One of the reasons I'd like to see him there (not headlining the Pyramid though) would be for the rant. Imagine how much the beeb would be crapping themselves in the run up to showing that live!

definitely agree it would be fun to see how the BBC tried to deal with one of his rants but that's something i could watch for 2 minutes on youtube rather than waste those precious glastonbury hours doing. I did actually really enjoy his first two albums but unfortunately (for me) over the last few years kanye's ego has far surpassed his talent and that is never a good thing
