Yes, on the Other Stage. Where everyone who cares about the Pyramid Stage catering for as wide a family audience as possible knows that Metallica should be.

Aye there were a couple going on for Dinosaur Jr too -- bit of crowd surfing going on too. There was a girl who got pulled out of the crowd unconscious because some tweedy Cotswold-type kicked her in the head.

For me it was unfortunetly a necessity to survive in getting out of the Rolling Stones last year. Other people just look to create problems or do it because they think it's 'cool' when they do it without taking care when they do it, which often results in people getting unnecessarily hurt. Same as mosh pits. Again, it's down to people's understanding of doing something before they turn around after and ultimately say, "so me and Basher were watching a band called Tyrannosaurus something and then Basher, he... of course... so silly... he decided to mush... mesh... mosh? Mosh!? Pit? Ever heard of that one? Yes, ha, well he mooshed in a pit of some sort and a poor filly chose to headbutt the sole of his Prada boating loafers. Very expensive you know"

The people who don't know what they're doing are the most dangerous in a mosh pit and it'll be a shame when no doubt a lot of people who don't know what they're doing will see it happening during Metallica's show and decide to try it for themselves. Don't blame the Metalheads though; they're alright.

their unanimous decision to cut their hair off was the most hilarious thing about Load-era Metallica. they clearly took their whole change from thrash/heavy metal to hard rock far too seriously, so much so that they felt their haircuts had to represent it

On a related 'arty' note - my favourite take on Load-era Metallica is this one from Hetfield:

"Lars and Kirk were very into abstract art, pretending they were gay. I think they knew it bugged me. It was a statement around all that. I love art, but not for the sake of shocking others. I think the cover of Load was just a piss-take around all that. I just went along with the make-up and all of this crazy, stupid crap that they felt they needed to do."

not sure about this bit. I want to go and see them, to see what the band is all about. I dont expect to get shoved around and barged into though, and will be very disappointed if this happens.

I dont expect to have to read a rule book of how to behave before going to see band. I want to be able to watch the band in peace, nothing more nothing less.

Yeah you get the odd mosh pit,there not very big and the teenagers that start them very quickly burns themselfs out when they realise 99% of the crowd just aren't intrested.

Check out a few videos on you tube,look at the people smiling,singing along with there view firmly fixed on the stage.

It's not a threatening atmosphere that some people might think having never been to a metallica concert.

well it will just be terrible if there ends up being a load of punch ups in the crowd and the reputation of the festival suffers as a result (beer+cocaine+people pushing and shoving=trouble in my experience)......But as you point out, this is unlikely so it's all good.

regardless of all that though, I saw a clip someone linked the other night of enter the sandman and I think this could be wondrous!

Thats the thing Russy - when that riff starts up its going to be immense.

But I just dont want lots of trouble and people being pulled limp from the crowd live on BBC2 - its just not good for the festival regardless of how much fun people are having. Plus I've got to clean that bloody moshpit at 6am in the morning <selfish>.
