A note about the poster:

Dear friends, until this year past I was a regular viewer and contributor to these forums. It was a wonderful distraction from my university studies. Alas, my masters year arrived, my finances vanished, and going to festivals was an impossibility, let alone wasting away the hours blindly speculating about bands that may or may not appear. So complete has been my isolation, that I essentially lost all contact with the direction of music in the modern world. I told myself it was fine, I was a grown up now, silly rock music and dancing around was a teenager's game.

That being said, fuck that shit.

With that sentiment in mind, please, help me locate awesome musics that I will have missed since my last Reading in 2012. Any and all recommendations appreciated, for an indication of my current tastes (if you sympathise with my plight enough for tailored recommendations), please see my lastfm profile: http://www.last.fm/user/richieparf

Much obliged,

RichieParf.

There's also actual punk, metal, ska, indie, reggae and metal. Try me with your favouritest band that have released something in the last 12 months and perhaps I can be rescued from my three-quater-length-shorted-converse-wearing nightmare.

Favourite albums in the last year:

Xiu Xiu - Always

QOTSA - Like Clockwork

The National - Trouble Will Find Me

NIN - Hesitation Marks

Nick Cave - Push The Sky Away

QOTSA aside though, not much would mesh with your most listened to stuff on last fm. If you do get on well with those albums, then there's plenty more stuff I can recommend, but most of the stuff I'm into post-95 is pretentious indie rock from across the pond, Scandanavian power metal, or electronic bands that sound like they endlessly sample old video games.

Aside from obvious and aforementioned ones:

Deap Vally - Sistrionix

Speedy Ortiz - Major Arcana

Foxygen - (long title, can't remember it exactly)

Suuns - Images de Futur

Peace - In Love

plus the new Cage the Elephant album comes out tomorrow I think. Probably out already but I'm on 3G until the weekend so I don't know what it's like or if it's leaked yet. Should be good anyway.

    • I went to the O2 show as had cheap NHS tickets. I did love the whole Machine Gun Kelly vs MGK Emo/Pop Punk stuff amusing and could see that show going down well. I thought it was so funny watching the video skits of a die hard old skool fan gradually morphing in to an Emo Kid. That show with less old Machine Gun Kelly tunes and more MGK Pop-Punk would be ace.   Pair him against a heavy act on the other stage and jobs a goodun,
    • Not sure if this is allowed, but I have an additional daily ticket which I’m willing to sell for a heavily reduced price. If you, or someone you know wants to go that day, but wouldn’t for the original price, let me know.    Edit: It’s for Friday
    • Couple of standing tickets left on ticketmaster if anyone is still trying
    • Choosing  I think boycotting a festival you would usually attend simply because you don't like one of the acts is pretty petulant to be honest, just go and watch a different stage. There are plenty of the usual slam dunk attendees who would be into him, as well as attracting new festivalgoers too.
    • I've never felt it takes that long but I'm quite a fast walker 😂
