According to Rob's twitter tickets are selling faster than they have for the past 3 years & he expects it to sell out...

oh really? quite surprised by that considering the lineup (so far) doesn't seem particularly special / different from other festivals (although i suppose Bestivals stature amongst festivals is growing every year)

For what it's worth, I really think Portishead will play Festival No. 6.

Hmm, that's a possibility (and a worry), but their other two headliners are Beck and London Grammar, so they've not exactly been pulling out the big guns so far.

Actually, maybe they're playing both. They've got Beck headlining their Saturday, so if London Grammar are on the Friday, we get Portishead on the Friday and they get them Sunday. No exclusivity deal would make them a more affordable Big Top headliner too.

I cant see it, I think Moderat are more likely

I would love it to be Portishead. I just dont think they would fit into a midnight slot on the Friday of Bestival

SURELY Moderat aren't Big Top headlining size, but I can see them getting a similar spot to Squarepusher last year (ie after the Big Top headliner).

But what I really want to know is... why do you think Portishead wouldn't fit that slot? I think they'd be perfect for it.

Might not be special but a few acts that can shift tickets atm. I imagine most Outkast fans who are more into "Alternative" stuff than the mainstream are taking a good look at it as opposed to the complete shite of lineup their Wireless day is plus Beck hasn't done a "proper" tour/shows in the UK in a while has he?

and then yeah, more and more people are looking to Bestival I guess, it's a bit like Glastonbury in that it still offers "pop" music but also has those extra areas for something more than a gig in field for the weekend.

Think once I've paid off Glastonbury and know how I am getting there, I am going grab a ticket for it actually :D.

Its mainly the contrast of running from the mainstage after dancing to Hey ya to crying in the big top listening to Roads. I would have stuck them on the Sunday personally

I think they would be the biggest big top headliner so far if it is them. Sticking them in a tent at the expense of Foals/Chic doesn't make sense to me. They headlined the other stage only last year and are in the process of making a new album plus headlining multiple festivals this year.

Maybe im just being pessimistic but im trying not to get my hopes up, Its just my opinion so hopefully im wrong.

Playing after Foals and on a bigger stage at the same time as Chic. I don't think you're being pessimistic, I think you're being realistic.

I agree, sadly.

I'd say it's pretty well balanced though:

OutKast's more alternative fan base wouldn't want to see them subbing Bruno Mars at Wireless, so they're still a massive pull for Bestival.

Foals, Disclosure, London Grammar, Clean Bandit, SBTRKT, Basement Jaxx, & Major Lazer are all safe popular bookings that will shift tickets.

Chic's stock has risen & they will attract people, despite regulars being pissed off that it's a repeat booking.

Beck is a rarity & in my view could easily have headlined the main stage. Same could be said of Busta Rhymes too.

Bestival has started catering to dance music fans a lot more, especially with the PORT. That should bring in the sort of fans that wouldn't want to go to Creamfields or Global Gathering but want dance music at a festival in a different way. It was a risk they took & so far seems to have been a massive success.

Plus, I think a lot of people see it as a nice alternative to Glastonbury. So in short, I'm not surprised it's selling well to be honest.

I know this is off the Portishead topic but what's your source for Major Lazer being a UK Exclusive? Couldn't find anything on the website

I see, good shout. Actually just found out I won't be able to go. The other person I was going with will still be 17 at the time, and we have no 30 year old to accompany us.

Can anybody tell me the possibility of us being able to get in? Or is it quite strict on the gates?

As long as you don't get a student ticket (they usually check student ID with them) it should be fine. As a last resort you could always grab a friendly older looking couple/family & ask them to walk in with you.

I wouldn't let it stop you from going, Bestival is a very friendly place someone would be willing to help you!

    • This is a fair point, given the amount the line up is torn apart after release, with the positions all torn apart and criticised - i guess an accurate stage predictions must have acts in positions that feel obviously wrong.
