Presumably guitarbhoy1888 is referring to 'any metal from Germany'.

someone reported it to me as racist, on the basis of that.

While I can see how it might be taken as meaning that, it can be taken in other ways too - the music of Queen (early albums) always conjours up images of fog, and moors, and Sherlock Holmes, and Hounds of the Baskervilles, to me.

So i've chosen to give the benefit of the doubt, rather than assume the worst intent.

By the time R&L comes around, the Libs won't be such a good booking anymore, most of the people who'll want to see them will probably have seen them this or next year.

And they'll still probably be booked.

also there are plans for a new album.

Haha, so The Black Keys' arena tour next year falls at the end of Feb/start of March and the first thing I though was, well that's handy for them to be announced for R&L, the tour'll finish just before announcement day :P

I know that's not logic, it's stupidity to assume anything but hey, could happen ;)

It would be interesting to know what you did mean though, if 'Nazi' and 'German' are interchangeable terms that mean the same thing to you it would explain the understandable (if stupid) use of the word.

As TIT says; ATDI in 2012 and they got a particularly poor crowd by the accounts I've heard. Not sure how Mastodon or Billy Talent did in the tent though but I just assumed since they got a new head booker person, that the increase of 'heavy' acts on main and introduction of a Rock Stage were moves that took some of that out of the NME.

ATDI were up against Kasabian so they were never going to get a massive crowd. I left halfway through The Cribs myself, both they and Mastodon seemed to have decent crowd which like you say apparently dropped off.

By the very nature of the set up it's unlikely that both the main stage and NME headliners will get 'decent' crowds, and it will always go with the more mainstream option rather than the credible one (Pendulum, Maccabees, Kasabian and KOL against Arcade Fire, The Cure, ATDI and FNM being the most obvious cases of that swing in recent years). I don't think it's just 'heavy' music that suffers.

I don't think that's where he was coming from at all. He was talking specifically about rammstein.

I think it's just a misconception about that particular band that he's latched onto.

Look at their debut album cover, it took them years to convince the German public they had no neo Nazi affiliations after that came out. Guitar boy isn't the first to make that incorrect assumption regarding rammstein.

It was purely a comparison that I think rammstein sound very angry and full of propaganda on record

If you have even heard nazi, anti-Semitic music, which I in no ways condone, that's pretty much what that sounds like.

Was said in a purely tongue in cheek manner

In no way find it acceptable to just change 'nazi' and 'German' at will

I think you're digging yourself into a bigger hole with that 'it's what Nazi, anti-Semitic music sounds like' comment, but I get what you mean. Apologies if I suggested you thought all Germans were Nazis.

Listen

It's purely an opinion that that's what their music sounds like to me

Well draw the line there

In no way meant to offend and tbh don't see why that opinion is digging a bigger hole.

Dont see why a hole was dug in the first place.

Well leave it at that eh ?

"Listen" I'll leave it where I want to "eh".

I was happy to leave it at my apology but you getting a but ratty about it and wanting the final word, and to be able to tell people to stop talking about it, makes me suspicious. I don't think you really have any idea what you're talking about.

Come on, Tourette. I think he was just trying to avoid confrontation. Allbeit in an ironically slightly confrontational way I guess.

    • The weather we have had whee i am in the last week or so has been.....  All the weather types in random order, wildly changing hour by hour.  Yesterday we had some beautiful semi warm sunshine - and also torrential downpours...   In summary - inconsistent
    • Warmduscher at ATN a couple of years back wins that one for me (or Christy Moore at Feile 92!). It wasn’t cold or windy though, so less unpleasant than it might have been. Hopefully it’ll stay dry for Nick Cave tomorrow!
    • Yeah.   Revisit in 2 weeks, then 👀
