Arcade Fire

The lyrics and the camera thing is part of it of course, but I like how it's a mood-setter for the first part of the set. It'll be interesting if they have a break after August, whether the current setlist survives mostly intact, or if they bring in some disc 2 stuff on the next leg of the tour.

Gonna try and get in front of the barrier for Arcade Fire, feel like I'll get the best out of the show, with the production and atmosphere.

i really wish they played more stuff from the second disc more frequently. it's the far superior side to the album imo. the fact that they've yet to play Awful Sound (and Porno) is a farce, and despite it being really mellow (and me stating otherwise early on in this very thread) i'd love to see Supersymmetry live

and i'll more than likely be coming from another stage before they begin but i'm gonna force my way as close to the front as i can. don't think it should be too hard

Supersymmetry live was outstanding at the Roundhouse. Feel pretty privileged!

Lykke Li to front and centre pyramid conga line?

Yeah, the second disc is wonderful. Supersymmetry I’d like to see on the setlist as long as it’s in place of We Exist/Joan of Arc. I can’t imagine Awful Sound having the same impact in a live environment, especially those drum breaks (no idea if that’s the right term?), but worth giving it a go. I know nothing about the technicalities of it all but I’m told that Porno seems like a difficult song to get right live, too.

i get that that's what they were going for, but the whole 'we don't wanna be rock stars' thing is just a bit... tired? think that's why Flashbulb Eyes annoys me moreso than anything else - regardless of it being a bad song, the whole message behind it has been done to death. might as well have called it 'Put The Fucking Cameras Down'

Tired maybe, but its better than another song about some woman you once did the dirty with :P

My girlfriend wishes to get pretty near the front, within the barrier anyway.

We were wondering, do you think a lot of the those who watch Elbow will stay for AF?

i imagine there'll be quite a big crossover, yeah, but i don't think the Arcade Fire crowd will be staggeringly big (for a Pyramid headliner, anyway) so i think you'd be able to make your way near-ish to the front fairly easily, regardless of where you're coming from

Yeah you're probably right; it was a similar case when we saw them at Reading. I've never been inside the barrier for any Pyramid headliner, so would love it if I could get in there for AF.

Dilemma, this. I do think they’ll be a big crossover, and if I wasn’t doing Earls Court I’d probably watch Elbow (they’re fine, it wouldn’t be too unenjoyable) to get a good spot. Seems overkill to sacrifice seeing acts I want to see just to get in position for a band I’ve already seen twice a few weeks before, though.

I’d probably choose Lykke Li or Four Tet but there’s no way I’m risking missing the start of AF, so I’d have to leave really early. Jurassic 5 seems a good option, half an hour in-between. Danny Brown (why so many hip-hop clashes?) even better, you’d get there in plenty of time. I’ll be at the West Holts for Tune-Yards though, how far to The Park from there?

Not too bad, but thinking about it, that’s not really worth it, is it? Rushing between and then missing half before heading back to The Pyramid. I might check out more of Parquet Courts and Danny Brown, them two at The Park and I could actually relax then without worrying about getting to Arcade Fire.

We had a Clash cover last november at the roundhouse (I'm so bored with the USA). It was pretty good actually and very unexpected but wouldn't you all rather a setlist like last night with no cover and more of their own songs? I know I would...

Clash, Bowie, or Pulp cover for Earls Court?

Bowie one for Glasto?

This seems most likely to me.

The Clash for one Earls Court night, I reckon. Just threw out the Pulp suggestion because of Steve Mackey on the Friday, but it’d be great. Don’t think they’ll do a cover at Glastonbury unless it’s with a guest, in which case, great, as long as their initials are DB and they’re not called ‘Danny Brown’.

I think if you get there just before the end of Lily Allen then you'll be certain of a spot near the front. And that's absolute certainty, you could probably turn up during/before the end of Elbow and manage a decent one.

A cover of Common People would be very good. I just hope they don't do the same cover as Coachella with Debbie Harry being at this festival too.

most under-rated track on the suburbsreally encapsulates the theme of feeling estrangedwish they'd play this sometime (and my favourite on the album, Deep Blue)...

"Cops shone their lights

On the reflectors of our bikes

Said "Do you kids know what time it is?"

Well, sir, it's the first time I felt like something is mine

Like I have something to give

The last defender of the sprawl

Said "Well, where do you kids live?"

Well, sir, if you only knew what the answer is worth

Been searching every corner of the earth"

http://youtu.be/aEz2skFPyxs

I don't understand what any of that means! Perhaps that's why I don't connect with that album on any meaningful way- it's okay, but nothing earth shattering for me.

I really want to try get in front of the barrier. Not willing to watch Elbow though! Will be heading to the pyramid (via toilets & beer stop!) after Wild Beasts and Chvrches on the JP. Should arrive in time for the end of Elbow and hopefully take advantage of some crowd movement.

Will many Elbow fans actually stay? I reckon most alot of the younger ones will move on to Skrillex, some the older crowd moving on to other various things around the site.

I reckon if you are there for the end of Elbow, you could get into the barrier
