"hope you've got your wellies"

"so who is playing this year" normally followed by a disbelieving tone of "you don't like Mumford?" when I have told them the headliners and said I'm not seeing any!

Oh and my Director at work when told yesterday I was going to Glastonbury "no drugs!" Damn!!!

The people I like seem to get it, are interested and ask good questions.

The people I like less ALWAYS ask if I'm excited about the Sat headliner (as it's probably the only act they know who is playing) to which I usually say "I won't be watching them" as I rarely do. I then get "what else is there to do?", at which point I usually walk away.

"It'll piss it down, the toilets are filthy, The Rolling Stones are really really old and I don't know any of their songs, you'll get your tent robbed, you'll stink, you'll get AIDS, you'll get stabbed, £200 is a rip off, you could have gone to Malia with the rest of us mindless cretins for that money" is a verbatim quote of what most people say. If not that then "what if it rains", well then it rains doesn't it. I own a coat and I'm not the Wicked Witch of the fucking West so I'll probably just about live through it.

This week it's all negative stuff and why they wouldn't want to do it.

After the festival they are saying how they will certainly go next year.

October they don't bother to try for a ticket.

Next June, the week before the festival they're saying all the negative stuff about why they don't want to do it again.

Every year without fail. These people never do anything.

Most people I've told seem to be concerned about my safety, and presume I will be too intoxicated to look after myself. Maybe they know me too well?

Also, I've been told how brave I am, and asked why I would pay that much when I can stay at home and see it all on tv.

To be fair though, if I hadn't been i'd probably be asking similar questions (in fact I probably did!).

I remember at my first glastonbury, I was walking up towards something i'd never heard of called 'the stone circle' at night, when a girl who'd just been there walked passed me and said "f*** the music, this is where the real festival's at" and I remember thinking: "ha! Ridiculous!". Oh dear!

So to advance the topic: what's the daftest question you've asked or misconception you've had before you started going to glastonbury, that now makes you cringe?

My workmates are mostly jealous. I had an email from one who is quite high ranking who I was badgering not to let her deposit go but did. "This time next week you'll be at Glastonbury. :( well jealous. She then phoned me and the conversation culminated in her faux slamming the phone down on me.

Most people just missed out on tickets that I know.

1. (Colleague) You're going to Glastonbury?! I didn't know you did drugs!

2. (Colleague) You're NOT seeing the Rolling Stones?! What, are you just going to chill back at the tent, then?

A few weeks ago:

    • People seem to have got obsessed about 'secret sets' at all festivals this year even when there aren't any spaces other than, in EOTR's case, the usual late Folly sets that 90%+ of the time are from artists who are already playing. And if it is someone else, I'm sure it won't be a band who played the festival last year.
    • To be fair @Superscally barely mentions the running thing. Very quiet about it 😘
    • I guess we'll just have to wait until videos of the shows go up, but the fact that the standing is also greyed out still suggests to me that those sections just sold out out before the others and a blue block just be like 3 tickets left, it's still not concrete proof they never went on sale and if they were never on sale why would they not make it even, if 414 wasn't on sale then you'd think 409 wouldn't be either
    • Selfish, but I've done the 2 days I'm there.. i'll try to do the rest through the day but might get beaten to it as it's editable....    https://clashfinder.com/s/ape2026/
    • I don’t think the festival automatically ‘need’ to have a female headliner if you have strong female headliners on the Other Stage (which I reckon will be Rosalia and Phoebe Bridgers), perhaps a female legend (praying for Annie, will take Cher), and a few female/mix gendered subs on the Pyramid (maybe London Grammar, The xx). From what I’ve seen of Sabrina, her team prioritises the pay day and I think she will be doing Wembley over Glasto weekend.   One thing I’ve noticed is a lot of the suggestions would be first time headliners and I can’t work out when the last time was that the festival had three artists top the bill that hadn’t topped it before? It seems to be something they like to do to make sure they have a ‘safe’ headliner that will land well with the masses. Plenty of names in that hat that could step back up next summer and should/could be about: Billie Eilish, Adele, Foo Fighters, The Cure, Radiohead, U2…hell, if Beyoncé is really planning to release a ‘rock n roll’ album to complete her Renaissance trilogy, Glastonbury would be a great place to ‘kick off’ that campaign for her.   And there’s always the Rihanna rumour. Her husband (I think) said this week she’s in the studio.
