Think the lukaku loan looks a worse decision to honest though I can see why he's not a mourinho type player. I expect Chelsea to be the most easily improved team in the top 7 next year via the addition of a striker

Just because you meet low expectations doesn't mean they're the correct expectations. It's similar with Arsenal. They can win the cup this week and parade the trophy and their fourth placed trophy around all they like, but they've failed again this season.

Great point, well made. Any actual reasoning for this?

You can try and portray LFC as plucky underdogs or whatever all you like, but the fact is they should be in the position they finished at, every year. However, to try and argue they had a successful season in the context of the season itself is complete denial.

Er no. Nowhere did i say "one winner, everyone else losers". It's a simple concept of achieving what you should naturally be doing, in the wider context, and the context of the season, and I suspect the fact that LFC failed to do that is going to haunt them for a time to come.

There's several examples of teams throughout the league, and leagues, who exceeded expectations based on their resources and the like.

It appears that LFC crave the "giants" tag when they want to, but when they want to exaggerate their achievements, the "plucky underdogs" tag comes out.
