They may not get a choice, in world cup year neither can afford a year training with the reserves. Both will have to get on with it if they dont get what they want. As for the young players we have heard a lot about these potentially good young players for years but theres a huge difference between potential and reality and we are still waiting for one to really break through. I personally thought Sterling was overhyped to a ridiculous level last year.

Well I assume liverpool will only look to replace Agger/Skrtel/Suarez when they have a deal to sell them. Overall I would expect liverpool to have more players going out than coming in, as their wage bill was too large and squad too big for a club without european football. Theres too much money that has been wasted over the years and they appear to be going down a more sensible route now.

This!!, ESPN just mentioned they've taken a £49 million loss on Carroll, Downing, Adam & Aquilani, £9.8M to Kenny Dalglish, and his team £8.39M to Hodgson and his team. Can't think of any clubs that could sustain that level of spending without Champions league footy.

Nah. Anderson is a fat useless bag of shite don't get me wrong. But nah.

Carroll played 44 games for Liverpool. At a £20m loss for LFC thats about half a million quid per game. Not including his 80k a week wages which brings it to nearly £600k per game played.

6 goals scored - thats £3.3m quid per goal - just on the loss they made - and so on. Astonishing numbers. I'd say John Henry still has nightmares about it.

But yeah. Anderson having 4 league titles and a Champions League is nuts.

Carroll is a solid forward for a team looking to make use of that type of player, I dont think he fits in with the liverpool style under the current regime. To me comparing Bebe and Carroll is a bit silly, Bebe was a bit of a punt (admitedly a high value one) while Carroll was bought in with more expectations regarding what he should be able to deliver.

4 year contract for downing! Its a decent life being a run of the mill premiership midfielder. I remember in the past there were a lot of lower league players getting 3-4 year contracts but now (particularly league 2 and below) players are happy to get 2 years. Wonder if the premiership will move to shorter contracts over time, or whether these contracts will get longer. Your bog standard top flight player from 20 years ago must be gutted when they see what their modern counterparts can earn.

Makes sense for the clubs though, you don't want to end up in a situation with a player running down his contract and not getting a fee for him. It's risky but if your spending shed loads on buying players, you've got to try and protect the investment.

Decent signing but I think we would have better far better off spending that cash on another striker. (Though I just read that apparently West Ham are one one of the bidders for Defoe.)

I'm not really sure whats going on at Liverpool? Reina gone, Downing gone, Shelvey gone, Carra retired, Suarez going, Spearing going and now talk of Agger and maybe Skrtyl too. Can't see Agger turning down Barca.

Anyone quality coming in? If this all goes as above Liverpool won't get within an asses roar of the Champions League positions.

Have the owners just forgotten to give Rodgers the pin number to the bank account or what?

    • It feels really busy this year, loads of big groups of youngsters too. Slightly different vibe to previous years I've been. As with Tramlines, they're very chatty during sets and there's a constant stream of them in and out of the crowd... definitely feeling my age 😂   The Quarry stage I think is a lot smaller than previous years - seems similar size to Squid/Leadmill. Some sets have been difficult to get in.   I think I've reached my limit with mid-tier indie guitar bands. There's been quite a few this weekend where I've gone over to see them then walked away after 20 mins. Surprisingly, enjoyed the Fratellis set the most in this genre. Probably getting on for 20 years since I last saw them. Wasn't expecting them to do Yes Sir, I Can Boogie, which was fab!   Hugely enjoyed the Happy Mondays yesterday, and same but different with Radio Free Alice who I saw again on Friday, following Tramlines last weekend. A big run of pop acts today - Scissor Sisters will be fantastic!
