This comes to mind. Quoted from Richard Cole, Led Zeppelin’s road manager back in 1969, with reference to a spot of fishing whilst on tour.

“It wasn’t Bonzo, it was me. It wasn’t shark parts anyway: It was the nose that got put in. We caught a lot of big sharks, at least two dozen, stuck coat hangers through the gills and left ‘em in the closet . . . But the true shark story was that it wasn’t even a shark. It was a red snapper and the chick happened to be a fucking redheaded broad with a ginger pussy. And that is the truth. Bonzo was in the room, but I did it. Mark Stein [of Vanilla Fudge] filmed the whole thing. And she loved it. It was like, “You’d like a bit of fucking, eh? Let’s see how your red snapper likes this red snapper!” That was it. It was the nose of the fish, and that girl must have cum 20 times. But it was nothing malicious or harmful, no way! No one was ever hurt.”

With no social media and the like back then, what went on tour literally stayed on tour. Cant imagine One Direction getting away with something like that this day & age (note: and I am in no way comparing those twats with Led Zep...) :nono:

Clapton one is odd... but taking away that rant from 40 years ago, it seems pretty clear that his views are more anti-immigration than racist. Personally I'm not anti-immigration, but I don't necessarily think being anti-immigration is anything bad (just unfortunately that, in a lot of people, it masks racism.

Either way, I'd be fine with Eric at the festival. Brilliant guitarist, great back catalogue and seems to be accepted by his (mainly black) band so I doubt he's that bad. He is a pretty dull performer/front man though.

Without going into the racist or not argument I'd agree with Vanderlyle. No edge or excitement these days. Very much going through the motions and living on a past reputation.

I saw him a few years back and did enjoy it but like people are saying it was a fairly bland performance. Put him on the legions slot and it would be a good gig, sat down lazing in the sun with a cider, headlining however would be awful.

Oh hes never a headliner. Agreed. But bathing in the sun, listening to him playing Nobody Knows When You're Down and Out. some might fine picking and a singing.

He could do the racist tirade as an encore too.

  • 8 months later...

Playing 70th birthday gigs in the Royal Albert Hall in mid/late May. Wasn't he confirmed to play in 07 by Eavis and then it all fell through?

The Glasto boss said: "He had wanted to play next year but because we haven't got a festival in 2006, we shook hands on him coming to 2007. Eric's a favourite of mine, he'll be brilliant."

Someone give him a tinkle for fucks sake.
