Decent ales etc that come in cans

Without wanting to hijack the OP, does anyone know what type of ale's are available on site?

I've only recently converted away from lager in the past year so havent sampled anything available at Worthy other than the ciders and lager's they have.

I'm getting right into IPA's (my local sells Jaipur in bottles - pure nectar that stuff) along with other lighter beers. I'm still struggling with darker stuff if I'm honest though.

I think all the bars have a selection of Bitter, there is a recent thread about favorite bars at Glastonbury.

I think most had some local beers from Bath etc one i remember was called Muddreger i think.

Most of the above mentioned have a good selection of ales.

Recent ales I've enjoyed were Trelawny, by St Austell Brewery; Boondoggle, by Ringwood, HPA by Wye Valley, and anything by Amber Ales (Derbyshire). Not sure any of those would come in cans or mini barrels, but I'd highly recommend them.

Wye Valley HPA is a great beer, very light in colour, pretty sure they do polypins.

Honestly, try a coffee porter next time you are in a decent beer pub / bar - it sounds like it will be horrible but they tend to be very good beers. Altho I wouldnt recommend a full pint!

A good one is Saltaire's Hazelnut Coffee Porter. But obviously no cans.... But this helped open my eyes to darker beers.

it's not a golden ale.

I don't might bombardier on draught if that's all there is, but I'd mostly swerve it for something else.

I've come across a golden Bombardier as well as the normal darker version. I think it's called Bombardier buring Gold. Very nice.

And I'd agree with the Abbot and would suggest Marstons Old Empire in cans - 5.6% so it does the job

Have you tried old golden hen. I, too find speckled hen just passable, but golden hen (from a bottle anyway) is lovely. I'm sure it's available in cans but I don't know how it tastes.

I've not yet tried it, but my local Sainsburys has Old Golden Hen in cans (at about £4.50 for 4). The packaging says it's 'new', but perhaps that really only means it's new to Sainsburys.

Anyway, I'm now well stocked for Glasto. :)

Bombardier burning gold has been knocking around for ages but is only available in bottle or when Wells and Young's decide to do it as a seasonal brew. I have 40 cans of bombardier and some thatchers gold for when I need something abit sweeter!

Is that Badger? Most of the Badger beers are nice. Never seen them in cans though (haven't really looked to be fair as always get bottles at home).

Yep it's one of my favourite Badger brews... http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=259546084

Likewise buy bottles for home - or there's one great pub near Charing Cross in London what does Badger on draft, fantastic.

EDIT: Might as well link to them - lovely place to stop for a pint or three: http://shipandshovell.co.uk/

I'm having trouble getting hold of decent/favourite ales in a can, so have settled for Old Speckled Hen, and also Tesco have Abbot Ale on offer from today http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=253412701 8 half litre cans for £9.

I would love to get some Tribute from St Austell, but with delivery it's £41 for a case!!!

Not seen anyone mention Fursty Ferret, also available at Tescos? Reckon I might get 2 x 4packs of the Golden Hen plus one 4pack of Ferret - lovely... :nyam:

fursty ferret is nothing like golden hen.

it was one of a selection of beers a few of us had at a recent fest, and it scored at the lower end of that selection.

Bought some Golden Hen and tried one last night, having left it out in the warm for 24 hours.

Yum.

Off to Tesco later to get a load more this morning.

Very nice. £1 a can is good value. 4%, tasty and from an indie brewer. Whats not to like?

I don't recall ever saying it was like golden hen? Unless somebody's changed the thread title thought it was just about ale in cans...

Can only guess we don't share tastes - it would be dull if we all did - or suppose there's a faint chance it was a dodgy barrel... But I'd hope not if it was a proper beer fest.
