Coachella & Glastonbury

I've always wondered, do coachella and glastonbury have a similarity in which acts play?

For example in 2010 Muse and Gorillaz both headlined coachella and glastonbury? So is there a past of acts playing both festivals or is it just coincidence. Chemical brothers, mumford & sons also played both in 2011, and in 2007 Arctic Monkeys also played both. Do you think there is a connection? Or just because the bands that play are ones that are doing world tours? Either way sound off.

Further than that, do you think some of coachella's acts that will be announced for this year have a possibility of playing glastonbury as well?

Yea Coachella got deep pockets.

I know Refused got 500 000 USD (310 000 £) , and they headlined the second stage.

Didn't Morrissey claim he got offered 5 million USD for a Smith reunion (whereas he and Marr was enough).. Guess those figures more fits for mr Jagger.

Line up wise Coachella is always pretty decent. As a festival it looks horrible. At Glastonbury you can freely walk around the site with your own alcohol, at Coachella you can only drink alcohol in designated areas. Horrible.

What I find interesting about coachella is it's setting, californian desert with acts playing.

Must admit watching radioheads set now, It looks beautiful.

Bit confused about the black keys set? I swear they played all their songs twice as fast and normal? They didn't do that at reading? It was really obvious in "I Got Mine" The baseline and guitar synths sounded rushed.

The venue is great despite a bit flat (its a polo field) but the snow capped mountains in the far distance are a nice touch!

Regarding the drink situation - you cant take (dont matter how hard you try) any drink even into the campsite and to buy drink in the festival you have to queue for a special wrist band that says your over 21 and then you can only drink in certain beer gardens and you cant take drink around with you

I went to Bonnaroo in Tennesee last year - that is a lot closer to glastonbury in many ways

It a State ruling - at Bonnarroo you can walk around anywhere with Beer but you cant get "hard liquor" anywhere.

In California (Coachella country) you cant drink on the streets only in bars.

Its worth doing once, but I dont think you would be itching to go back afterwards in the way glasto makes you.

Lineup wise these festivals are very similar: BUT

To me Glasto and Coachella are two massively different fests. Despite these lineup similarities.

Mud which is commonly associated with festivals is a typical site at Glastonbury but not at Coachella.

Coachella isn't as iconic really as Glastonbury. A sunset behind the Glastonbury Tor in the distance of the Pyramid Stage arena is an unbeatable festival experience.

The arts and crafts and theatre and circus areas (+ plus the Kidz Field) really makes Glastonbury a place for everyone.

As far as I'm aware Glastonbury is the most charitable funding major festival. Greenpeace and Oxfam are two huge Glastonbury associated charities as well as Water Aid. And the massive push for 'Make Poverty History' in 2005 makes Glastonbury a truly unique fest.

I don't think any one can really compare Glastonbury with any other festivals considering these points.
