I would never go there 'just' for Arcadia and Shangri-la etc. But I admit it makes up a big bit of my weekend.

I will say this though (and I've been saying it for years) I have never been to Glasto for the music. Of course I have seen many good bands there. I think I have been to the Pyramid stage about 5 times in 18 Glasto's and seen a good few bands that I have never heard of.

I have always gone for the music alternative entertainment. Caber’ate, Theatre, Comedy, Weird shows, fireworks, wonderful sculptures and art, but most of all the vibe and the poeple.

Hardly a unique perspective, but one that I have held true over the years.

I'm not a big fan of Arcadia at all, but the other 4 late night areas are amazing and definitely one of the things that made we want to go back.

Block 9, especially the NYC Downlow is just brilliant.

The last 2 years I've spent most of my time around that end of the site. I'm not really into most of the acts on the 2 big stages and there's something about the Dance Village I just don't like.

I gotta agree with you on that point - there was certainly no glasto magic in the dance village this year - it just struck me as bit sparse / muddy / soul-less last year - maybe it was just a little less thought out than other areas - I'd say that compared to 5-10 years ago, dance is no longer big/new/alternative/etc enough to just plonk a tent in the middle of a muddy patch

I hope they've had a rethink about getting in and out - last year was a bit horrific trying to leave as the entrance to shangrila meant people were queing to get in there stopping others leaving.

Orbital on arcadia last year was awesome though, finished off one hell of a good Saturday

Yes, the late-night areas is a big part of the pull for me - the biggest individual attraction out of all the amazing activities on offer.

I will also be spending a fair amount of my 'energy budget' on the late-night stuff, which inevitably does mean missing out on some of the daytime magic.

What annoyed me was that they only opened the entrance to the long way in at 11 o clock last year on the Saturday, but closed the normal one at 10.

There was a massive queue up at the late night entrance and people were getting a bit aggro, some arsehole shouted abuse at me for skipping the queue, even though I was actually going into the toilets that were next to it and returned to my original place in the queue afterwards.

yea we had great time but the crowds were mad it seemed that the whole of glasto was going one way lol ill prob spent one night checking it out but i think theres more to see than just Arcadia .

last year we were heading there when we came across the out door circus with a trapeze act going on so stayed and watched that and wow was it amazing dont know if anyone else caught this but im going to try and see that again ...it was next to some bird in a balloon that was flying around which was great as well lol

its these things that make a glasto imo

I think you're referring to the area known as Glebe Land? Just inside Ped Gate C?

One of my favourite areas. Of course! I never thought, but because of all the people heading to the end of the new queuing system for Shrangri-La, more people will become aware of this area.

And yes, these things make Glastonbury, very very special smile.png

I'm usually too tired to deal with the huge crowds to spend much time in the late night areas. I always try and go anyway though, I love the whole concept of it (Shangri La moreso than Arcadia but fire is always good).

I loved Block 9 & the rest of that area last year. I too agree about the 'dance' village, it has died on its arse. I still find it incredible that with so much quality underground dance music around these days that the line up's in the dance village are full of big names of the past, and radio 1 bullshit apart from a few class acts who seem to be put on early afternoon, and the sound is usually pretty bad. Its all about the smaller vibe, and you got to be in it to win it :)

Thing is, there's loads of amazing house and techno in the late night areas. The best DJ set I saw last year was Brawther in NYC Downlow. But there was far too much cheesy shite in the dance village IMO. ALthough I did enjoy Crazy P in that magic bubbles stage(I think it was called that anyway!)
