didnt mumford headline rockness?

yup - but i couldn't believe that was going to be the only UK festival they were going to do (particularly as they did some Euro fests too), and I managed to check out what the word on it was. And I was told "nothing else in the UK". I couldn't believe what I was told was true, but it turned out to be true.

Likewise, I've heard that Blur aren't doing UK fests next year, just ones overseas. I have great trouble believing that, but it might turn out like Mumfords did.

Do you think that may have been to "up their festival stock" as it were for this year?

For Mumfords? Yeah, perhaps.

If they headline one or more of the big fests this year - and I guess they will do - they'll actually be a very fresh act in front of festival crowds.

I know they went around everywhere a few years ago, but they were a lot less popular then. Unlike just about every other 'new' act they've not done the standard festival-whoring thing of playing one set of festivals one year and another set the next year.

I'm torn on Blur

In one sense, i can understand that they want to play places next year where they missed out. So i can believe they wouldn't play UK festivals.

On the other hand, given the link between the festivals they are playing and Reading, as well as the massive pay day they would get, i find it hard to believe that they would keep away.

Also, i can't really think of any 'classic' bands who Reading can get who would play the festival and sell the tickets they needed. Blur is the only logical one i can think off ( On the basis that Killers/Prodigy aren't really big/classic enough)

On a personal level, i don't really want to go to Reading next year, but as a massive blur fan, would be tempted to go if they played. So i hope they don't play and i can have a year off:-)

I think Biffy can get away with it as they appear to be very much on the up; on the other hand I've heard Lostprophets have said they're refusing to return to R&L until they headline, which I'd argue is far more damaging than being a festival whore especially considering their declining status.

I think the excitement over The Hives was due to just how long they had been away. I'm a massive Hives fan and I went to see them on their last UK tour which was in spring 2008, while they only made rare appearances (hard rock calling, wireless) at other festivals

The only problem with that is that trends might change after 4 or 5 year away, doing that they will lose alot of money.

I remember stereophonics saying they need to go away but they could be forgotten about if they did. This was the time where they played bloody everywhere. Which you can agree with as when they comeback now they would struggle to get the positions they once did.

    • I'm not a Bond fan or anything, just a fella who will happily sit and watch a Bond film - so from that perspective I will say that Brosnan is my favourite, I really love all the ones he has done and can quite happily watch them over and over.   favourite individual film tho is On Her Majesty's Secret Service.   absolutely hate the Dalton ones - I used to think it was just the way he chose to play the character, for some reason he thought Bond should be a thoroughly unlikable person. but actually, Dalton plays this exact same character in every single thing I have ever seem him in... so I think he is either just a properly sh*t actor, or maybe he himself is just a thoroughly unlikable person.   dont really have any interest in any future ones tho... didnt really like the Craig ones.
    • Next year's dates: 3. - 5. June 2027.
    • Fair enough but Im surprised what you say about the acts. I dont see who they could realistically have booked to make it better than the lineup they had.   And Im curious about your cryptic last comment. Locals get in for free?!
    • Non of those three are stadiums bands and Slipknot/Maiden have both been booked for Download more times than any of other headliners, I wouldn't say that trio feels big or expensive, it's a solid realistic trio
