I think what I mean by mindless entertainment is self-indulgent, wasteful, egomania. Avengers for instance was a very considerate movie, you had a sense that Whedon was very respectful to his audience. It wasn't ego-driven at all, quite the opposite I think. I think that's the difference; I get nothing but cynical with Michael Bay films, they're fucking shite because all you get is a manchild's macho bullshit for two hours, even in things that have no place for that.

Not sure if I already posted this but went to see Taken 2 on Sunday, biggest pile of shit I've ever had the misfortune to sit through.

Acting was appauling, fight scenes were stiff and forced, camera placement during the chase scenes was shocking,no plot,no character developement...I don't understand how/who watches that kind of shit.

Also, why the fuck can't they pernounce 'Istanbul' correctly?

I watched Compliance last night after hearing a lot of people walked out during it's various premieres (a lot of films get me in that way).

Sort of spoiler alert.

Although it was meant to make you feel upset, distressed and claustrophobic, it just made realise how stupid people are particularly Americans.

It is one of those stories that is so unbelievable it has got to be true.

But it wasn't scary either. I'm not sure it succeeded at being either a horror or a comedy. I didn't mind it too much, but mostly I just thought it was a bit stupid. Everyone else I watched it with thought it was utter shit though.

It's supposed to be a love letter to horror films to counter the torture porn of Saw, Human Centipede, Hostel etc that have become popular recently. TBH I wouldn't really worry about genres with movies and just take it as it is.
