I rerouted my trip through Australia to see him in Brisbane in 2004, so so glad I did because he was a must see for me.

I hear rumours here and there (Twitter etc) of his health having taken a dramatic turn for the worse. I really really hope that's not true.

there's a different rumour every day about how ill Bowie is. I think he's just living comfortably but has a heart too weak to handle the stresses of playing live. He's supposedly been at deaths door for over 6 years now! The photos of him taken in 2011 just look like a normal man of his age. Dont forget he has always looked incredible for his age. I think his age has just caught up with him, and he now looks just like any other 60something. Which is sad really, age catches up with us all eventually.

The glastonbury gig I must agree with tonyblair on. I was quite non-plussed by it when I heard he was playing (and dont forget this was back in the days when you only found out who was playing when you walked through the gates...or over the fence....) as he'd been pretty turd throughout the 90s (im my mind), but it was such a return to form. It was sensational. Easily in the top 3 acts I've ever seen on that stage.

And the 2004 reality tour was MEGA. If you havent got the live album from the dublin gig go and get it now! It's superb. That was one hell of a tour.

I love bowie with all my heart. Such a shame he couldnt do a leonard cohen and perform well into his 70s!

I missed Bowie in 2000 also, our lift home fell through and we had to bundle into the back of a corsa van on Sunday morning (I also missed Muse, who were the band I'd most wanted to see all weekend). Like others, at the time I wasn't concerned at missing him because the music he was making at the time was in decline and that was what I thought he would play. I was wrong and I regret that. I saw Travis. Sometimes life is just a kick in the balls to remind you not to make poor decisions.

According to the date on the page I have for the 2000 line-up, that was published on Thursday 25th May 2000.

I was running Glasto's official website in both 1999 (which was actually a website of mine that they adopted as the official), and in 2002 (when I was running both eFestivals, and GFL's own official website). In 2002 the line-up was announced on 19/6/2002. In 1999 it was Thursday 17th June 1999.

I can't guarantee the 1999 & 2000 dates are correct (I guarantee the 2002 & 2003 dates are), but they probably are correct.

Just to go back to the original subject of this thread (although Bowie is a better one I think)

Ed Sheeran just posted this letter that he received post ceremony from Nick Mason on his Facebook page, thought people might find it interesting...

''I got sent an email from Nick Mason of Pink Floyd about the Olympic closing gig, he asked me to share it....

Before I do, just wanna say was an honour it was to play that song with Nick, he is a legend and a gentleman. Anyway. Here's the email....

Really great experience, many thanks for a great performance. And a great day out !

Following a bit of post show stuff with some of the PF fans getting outraged at people not realising the song was not your new release, I just wanted to go on record to suggest they chill on this.

As far as I'm concerned what you did was a really great version of the song, and its one of the nicest tributes to have any artist choose to play another's work, particularly an artist whose a great song writer in his own right. Personally I really enjoy re-interpretations of other peoples work, be it Joe Cocker (Little Help...) Jimmy Hendrix (All along the Watchtowers...) or Dub side of the Moon, Eric Pridz or the Scissor Sisters....

Sooner or later people will work out the origin of the song, and who knows, maybe check out our catalogue, just as hopefully our fans might check out yours. Music doesn't have to be entirely partisan – Or if it does, no one bothered to tell me...

posted this in another topic before. but I've met Ed a few times before he got massive. He used to be a regular performer at a night one of my good friends puts on in North London (Lyrix Organix).

Top guy, very down to earth, just loves music and performing. Genuinely believe he would do it for pennies for the rest of his life if that was the option. Had a remarkable way of captivating a room. He used to just get up on the table in the top room of this pub and jam and get everybody in the room smiling and involved.

Thrilled for the guy he's made it big. Like or dislike his music, he's one of the industry's good guys who has got to where he is with talent and a hell of a lot of hard work and grafting on the circuit.

Haters gonna hate, but to see this kid who I used to see play to about 20 people in a pub, now playing with Nick Mason at the Olympic closing ceremony is pretty awesome.

As for Nick Mason, what a cringeworthy response. He was a great drummer, but he contributed to I think about 10 pink floyd songs and wish you were here certainly wasnt one of them, It's not really any of his business. It's waters and gilmours song, not his. The fact that they havent sprung to ed sheerans defence says it all.

It was a bog average performance from a bog average musician.
