3rd Headliner just confirmed

Info I've long had is that they're next in the UK for an arena tour in the autumn (and I've had good info on their tours from the same source previously), which is why I ignored the many rumours that they were doing Reading/Leeds this year.

And something I heard a long time ago has me believing that they won't play Reading/Leeds ever again. That might be wrong of course, but it's certainly been good for every year since they last played while very many other people have been absolutely convinced that they'd be playing at Reading/Leeds every year.

they haven't played ANY UK festival in a while have they? at least not since they did the rounds with American Idiot? i know they definitely didn't do any festivals off the back of their last album

a lot of people seem to think that they were originally in The Cure's place as headliners this year at Reading / Leeds. not sure if i believe that (in fact, i'm pretty sure a similar theory was going about last year)

any reason why you think they won't be playing Reading / Leeds again? what with Chilis, Muse, Foos, Metallica, Radiohead,Guns N Roses all having played in the past few years,Green Day (to me) seem nailed on as the last BIG headliner before the rest start doing the rounds again

it's not true.

That's the idiot line that the people who were claiming they were playing have come out with as their excuse for being so wrong.

Yep, but it's not something I'm going to be repeating because I've no way of knowing for sure whether it's true or not. But every snippet I do hear seems to further confirm that what I heard is right.

Don't be expecting them at Reading next year.

I wouldn't expect anyone along the lines of Green Day unless they have special links to Bestival and/or RDB.

Plus, if Rob is going to 'blow the budget' somewhere, I'm sure he will be a LOT more original than Green Day.

Personally I'm still holding out for Leonard Cohen. That would be an inspired booking right there.

Working on the basis that Bestival is usually home to Dance, Chill out or individual acts, this surely rules out the chance of any rock band headlining.

I know The Cure played last year but you can't really pigeon hole what they do and they have a massive cult following.

Green Day and Placebo seem really unlikely to me, or the majority of acts that you could see on the main stage at Reading.

Green day would be hilarious, it really wouldn't work.

"COME ON EVERYONE, MOSH, PLEASE, DON'T WANNA BE AN AMERICAN IDIOT, COME ON?!"

Too angry at the state for Bestival.

We'll all be wondering when the synths kick in.

Greenday? What next Bloodhound Gang?

I think people are running out of ideas and have now started throwing any old shite at the wall and hoping it'll stick.

Surely both Gaga and Beyonce would be SERIOUSLY too expensive, surely more than even a Reading or Glasto sized headliner? Thinking big but think possibly too big.

Would like to be proved wrong though.

At That sort of size surely someone along the Jay-Z & Kanye lines would also be feasable as well.

Just can't see it.

Well considering Glastonbury usually pays about 10-20% of what acts usually charge and Beyonce being below Coldplay at T in the Park last year, maybe she would charge less for a festival show than what she makes from a massive arena show. By the way she talked about Glasto, she loved that whole festival vibe, so it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

No idea about Gaga but I think I would be firmly entrenched in the Big Top if she were to headline.

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
