But, does everything have to be upbeat and positive? Sometimes, what some people would term as "depressing music" and dull has a purpose. The lyric-writing is often very good and with the instrumentation leads to a lot of beauty in music, e.g. Bon Iver, Sigur Ros, a lot of Radiohead's material.

No it doesn't you're right but I don't know there's something that Radiohead and Sigur Ros have that Bon Iver doesn't. I think Radiohead and Sigur Ros have a sense of scale and epicness. Whereas Bon Iver have this "floaty" feel that just doesn't do it for me.

I know maiden get mentioned every so often, watched them on sky arts last night and they were funny as anything.

But they were playing infront of 250,000 people so im sure they still have the pulling power in the uk and with maybe only downloadother than r&l they could play then maybe.

I'm aware the consensus on here is that there is no chance that Slipknot will be back at Reading in 2013 so for those more informed than me when do you think they will be back? And if not back at Reading when do people expect them back in the UK for their own tour or another festival appearance, next year or 2014?

Thanks for that mate, I will have to keep my eyes peeled. I was never the biggest fan but the mrs younger sister has really got me into them. Never realised there was a chance it may be a last tour.

Yeah same, I recently just got into them properly and if it is the last tour i'm really hoping to get tickets as the show they put on looks incredible!

I saw them back in 2000 at Reading and can confirm they do put on a hell of a show. Hopefully you are right that they are touring in December but wrong about it being their last one!
