What you'ree missing is that just about every cluib owner owns the club to make money, not to lose it.

Yes, then accounts might show they're pumping money into the club, but just as Halls and Shepherd did they're sucking more than that out via other means.

If I were you, I'd be happy that you've got a up-front owner, and not some scumbag who is saying one thing while doing the opposite - like your last two. Ashley is turning out to be the good guy, even after this.

I think its just the realism of football if you want to be a member of the capitalist dream the premiership you have to accept that if you can make money out of something then it will happen. Newcastle arent the first and certainly wont be the last. I think in 10 years time all the major premiership sides will be in spnsored stadiums, its effectively money for nothing. The clubs have already shown they are happy to price their traditionall fans out of the game so why do people think they will start caring now.

But it's not sponsored. Ashley's just using it to get free advertising for his company. He's not even indirectly sponsoring it like Man City's lot are doing. It'd be easier to stomach if there was actually money coming in from this.

Ah maybe I have been confused by the bbc article, the way I read it I thought it sounded like the new name was a short term name untill they sold a joint shirt/stadium deal. I didnt really understand why but gueesed it was a cyncial ploy thinking the fans wouldnt mind as much if it changed from the sports direct stadium to the brand X stadium.

II know that we're a lot more sensibly run now. I agree with the policy of not chasing marquee signings and scouting for young talent, but I don't believe that there isn't an affordable striker that's better than Best. We're getting a lot better value for the money the club spends, but we need to prove that we're not a selling, shop-window club for the talent we're scouting.

Just thinking of Maigo. I don't much about him to be honest, but do you think that'll be it in terms of strikers if you do get him? Just thinking the possible cooler on Newcastles chances of sustaining their form that is ACON; Tiote and Ba off, and Maigo would be too.

Not seen it mentioned yet, but regards discussion recently, impacts on others a bit. I'm unsure if any have retired from Internationals but if not both Toure brothers from City. Drogba, Essien, Kalou from Chelsea. Gervinho, Frimpong, Chamakh from Arsenal. Arsenal will hope for no injury to Van Persie during that period.

Cameroon, Nigeria and South Africa didn't quality, so Song, Mikel, Assou-Ekotto, Pienaar, Bassong etc stay.

It is short term, in the same way as 'sportsdirect @ St James Park' was short term. It's there until there's a sponsor, which didn't come in last time, and I'm not entirely sure whether it'll come in this time.

Including that last time was a sopp to the fans, needed because of the dire situation at the club. With the club in a better position the fans will grudgingly accept a full rename.

It's a smart political move by Ashley (from his position), but you might well be right and he won't have any better luck this time around - but that'll be because of the fans if they don't. And so while those fans (unrealistically) scream for glory, it'll be them that ensures the glory doesn't have a hope of happening.

As much as I hate it, doing stuff like that is a part of the modern game - if a club doesn't compete financially, it can't compete on the field. Sooner or later they'll be the Old Tesco Stadium in Manc Salford, and Liverpool will be playing at the Asda and not Anfield.

While plenty of other clubs have had stadium sponsorship deals, and I accept that it's probably an inevitability for nearly all clubs, my biggest issue is that we're changing, without getting money in, as a way to 'showcase the opportunities'. Personally though, I feel that potential sponsors can see it from other clubs, and the vehement opposition - which I believe is largely sparked by the fact it's advertising Ashley's company for no money into the club - may actually deter sponsors.

I'm just incredibly pissed off about the fact its changed without money coming in.

I think that without this 'trial' to show to potential sponsors that it'll work at Newc, because of what went on in the past there'd be no chance of getting any one at all.

So I see it as just a prelude to getting some money in, rather than doing nothing and then getting nothing.

Well Essien's injured, Kalou seems out of favour, and I'd argue Sturridge is Chelsea's best striker atm. For City, I imagine De Jong will start playing again, and Kolo's not really had a chance since the drug issue surfaced. Gervinho will be a big loss for Arsenal though. I've been incredibly impressed with him so far, plenty of assists and offers another dimension to their play. I suspect with Wilshere coming back around them, him and/or Ramsey will play further forward in Arsenal's midfield, unless Arshavin explodes fully back into form (although he has been improving). I wouldn't be surprised if they sign someone.
