Blatter ...

"I've been misunderstood, What I wanted to express is that, as football players, during a match, you have 'battles' with your opponents, and sometimes things are done which are wrong.

But, normally, at the end of the match, you apologise to your opponent if you had a confrontation during the match, you shake hands, and when the game is over, it is over."

er... that's pretty much exactly what you said first time. Fucking douchebag

I disagree, I'm no huge blatter fan but listening to the world football phone in podcast has given me a new perspective on him. Pre blatter/johansen fifa was run by an Englishman Stanley rouse who was basically only interkested in the major nations and had no interest in developing the game worldwide. These countries have long memories and quite fairly think England are in no position to act as moral guardians of the game. This blatter story will die quickly there is no support outside England so can be spun easily as England being anti fifa/blatter.

I'm not trying to favour Suarez, but I can see that there's room for it to be something different to the allegation from cultural angles, and I'm hoping it's that because I'd rather there wasn't racism. Most of all I'd rather the whole thing had never happened cos whatever the outcome it's going to leave a bad taste at some level. :(

The cynic in me does question the fact that this was tweeted by Dani Pacheco, who is coincidently a Liverpool player.

lol - that side of things had passed me by.

But anyway, I don't see how that's of any relevance. You don't successfully defend someone from racism by further racism.

This!

England need to learn to keep their gobs shut. The power base of Johansen and Blatter comes from the historically-justified anti-English sentiment within FIFA, and Blatter's re-election by such a margin gets to show how strong that sentiment remains.

So strong in fact that rather than Platini being the shoe-in that England believes once Blatter retires, it's quite possible - likely even - that he'll get rejected because he's getting such strong support from England.

If England learn to keep their gobs shut then there's a decent chance that FIFA might actually be led by someone we can have some approval of, but the more we mouth off the more remote that possibility becomes.

I have no doubt blatter is an idiot but its also fair to say the media isn't balanced in reporting on blatter and is 100% negative. You never hear people say how positive it is that football in the developing world has improved under his tenure. You say he is holding the game back but Africa has taken huge steps forward. As for the corruption aspect i think many countries in both developing and developed world accept it as normal. As for the racism angle I can see why a lot of african nations think screw the English when in power they held us back and were led by a supporter of apartheit, I think for many its a case of better the devil you know.

I think they are well aware of the effects that us mouthing off so loudly has. Our bridges with FIFA, and the football world in general, are so badly burnt now that there's no way back whatever we do. By being this vocal, it allows the FA to build up this "they're all against us" attitude in this country, and avoids people questioning why we're so hated.

Wages of £174m, £21m higher than revenue of £153m. Would presume higher this coming financial year, given that that's pre-Aguero, Nasri, (Both on huge contracts), Clichy, Hargreaves, Savic, Pantilimon. Countered slightly by Jo, Given, Boeteng, SWP, Bellamy leaving the club permanently and presumably Spurs paying part of Adebayor's, as are Betis for Roque Santa Cruz. though pretty sure Adebayor's wages are quite heavily subsidised and would definitely think the same for Betis as hardly flush I don't think. Probably pretty strong possibility that the club are also subsidising those permanent outgoing players wages too. 25 man squad rules mean they're dead money otherwise, so anything recouped whether small transfer fee or reduction in wages is a bonus to City.

edit: their turnover will increase fair amount this coming year though; CL football, Etihad sponsorship kicking in.

My opinion is if you want to challenge fifa and blatter its fine but you have to choose your battles or it dilutes each one. The fact englands attacks have heightened after England losing the world cup bid looks like sour grapes.

The blatter incident is not the right battle. What he said was stupid in a prince phillip type of way and that's how its been reported worldwide. The English campaign to have him sacked for this is stupid. I don't believe blatter is racist, as I said it will look odd to some countries that the nation who were anti equality when in charge of fifa are now playing the race card against the man who has been involved in a regime which has made the game.more inclusive to Africans, Asians etc. I can completely understand why these nations support blatter ahead of a nation that held them back, I think to say its all because of bribes and bungs is incorrect.

On the forthcoming side, anyone got any clue how this weekend is going to pan out? Every fixture looks like it could be quite tight, particularly with the bigger teams more likely to suffer from the international break. Norwich-Arsenal and Swansea-Man U would usually look like away bankers, but I could see them being closer than you'd expect. Odds wise, us away at City is the longest, and I'd probably agree with that, despite our surprisingly great form. There's quite a lot of games where both teams need and are perhaps due a win, Everton-Wolves, Sunderland-Fulham, West Brom-Bolton, Wigan-Blackburn. Tight.

These stats say it all about the "british" style of football. Obviously I need to watch more scotland games as it looks like they are the only british nation playing football! I think its amazing that england are a team full of multi millionaires pass the ball back more than any team in europe except for one of footballs minnows, then again with JT in defence maybe you can understand why. Also wales are terrible, I dont have a clue who our players think they are hoofing the ball to. Very unsurprised to see spain bottom, must be a comfortable job being the spanish keeper.

Euro 2012 quaifiers, I think our style of football is generally ok but think if you dont have the confidence to pass it from defence you will end up inviting too much pressure and getting punished. I remeber numerous times as a football fan england leading big games and not holding on, I think these stats show why. In britian the ultimate defender is considered a JT type who heads and tackles but has no pace or passing abiltiy. My thought about defending is if the opponenets dont have the ball, they cant score.
