The average goals per game is currently: 2.1

It'll be less by the end of the season - I'd say around the 1.5 or 1.6 mark, about the same as last season (it was actually 1.45 last season).

If Spurs keep leaking goals at a similar rate (which is about the same this season so far as last) then they'll finish around the same position. Their hope for a better position will come from tightening up their defence, cos I can't see their goals holding up.

Spurs defence hasn't been too bad. Shipped 8 against City and Utd beginning of the season but that was pre-Parker arriving, pre-Modric turning up, Adebayor arriving etc, but other than those results have only conceded 7 in their 8 league games since, and only 3 home games there with 5 away. 2 in their 6 Europa Cup games, and a clean sheet (albeit loss on pens) in the Carling cup to Stoke.

9 goals in 15 games. Will want more clean sheets, as wins can soon turn into draws if having to find 2 goals each game, but I wouldn't really say they were leaking goals currently, anymore really than many of the others.

Newcastle (best defence in league) have conceded 7 in their last 8 league games (4 in last 4)

Tottenham 7 in last 8 league games (5 in last 4)

City have conceded 7 in their last 8 league games (or 5 in their last 4)

Liverpool have conceded 8 in their last 8 league games (or 2 in their last 4)

Utd have conceded 9 in their last 8 league games (or 7 in their last 4)

Arsenal have conceded 11 in their last 8 (or 5 in their last 4)

Chelsea have conceded 13 in their last 8 (or 7 in their last 4).

How is there such a difference in matches played between teams that have been in the same division the whole time? Minus a season or two here and there? Liverpool and Arsenal played 400 games more than Utd and Everton 400 more than those two?

you've made the mistake of thinking that Utd have "been in the same division the whole time" as Everton.

Utd have spent more time in the lower leagues than Arsenal or Liverpool - around 8 or 9 seasons more, from those numbers.

I can personally remember Utd in the 2nd Div.

I'm surprised that Arsenal have that many fewer games, cos I know they get claimed as always having been a top flight club. If i'm remembering rightly, the dispute over that comes because of a war-time relegation or something, when the league wasn't operating in its normal manner.

But anyway, my guess for the fewer Arsenal games is that they were formed later than most other clubs (I think I'm right with that, can't be bothered to look it up).
