PHOENIX FESTIVAL 2012!

Hmmm August, surprised at that date, Im guessing it will be the first weekend or second weekend. Gunna tred on the toes of V and Reading.

Think V is gunna go more and more pop with the re-emergence of Phoenix, it just won't be able to compete and why should it, its attracting a different sort of crowd these days.

Im not surprised about Kasabian, the only fest they haven't headlined recently is Reading and if they don't want them where do they go? That being said Kasabian isn't the sort of act I was hoping for to be booked, a bit too mainstream. I know they have to shift tickets, but I was hoping more along the lines of Pixies, Massive Attack, Bjork, The Cure, Radiohead, Portishead etc,

August is a big enough break from Download for me though, so could do Download and Phoenix if money and the mrs is permitting.

Grinderman aren't touring next year, deadmaus 5 are too big for the third stage, Vampire weekend are too big for second from top on the second stage, and radiohead are playing Biablko on the 13th July and optimus live on the 15th July, so i have my doubts about them headlining the Sunday.

Aside from that, it sounds realistic :-)

With the more established fests, people know what they are getting & will be safe in the knowledge its going to be run ok etc with years of experience behind them. With a whole new fest like Phoenix, people might think its too much of a gamble ie it could be a shambles (eg Beach Break Live ended up moving site weeks before the event in '10, although doing pretty well now in South Wales, & Zoo8 I heard was an absolute dangerous mess... & these are small fests) + do we know where its being held yet?

R+L will get the teens/students in as they all have the summer off, no jobs to get time off work, but with the line up "leaked" I'm not that sure how many of teens/students will be that interested thus an announcement needs to be made so people interested in that line up can get time off & the money to save up.

Of all the festivals this summer, Phoenix as the newbie, should have been the first out with a line up & selling tickets to grab peoples attention & headlines.

IMO.

The more they wait the less I'm interested in this new fest, it looks as if they are disorganised or there's problems.

Yeah...agree. Given its potentially only 7 months away to not even announced a date/venue is pretty odd. Still only give it 50/50 it'll actually happen.

Not a massive fan of either Bjork or Radiohead but happy if it was along those lines as its not likely to appeal to the 'Skins' demographic so might be able to bring the tent back without it being covered in a teenagers WKD induced vom.

like others have said, bjork will not headline a major festival(50k plus). Although if that was the lineup it would be the lineup of the summer for me.

I cant see it happening either lippy. not so much lineups but there hasnt been any info about dates or even venue.

That said...

A spokesman for the event said they had “no comment”, adding: “Music Festivals Plc is working very hard on its summer music offering and we'll announce the line-up in due course.”

I've looked...hello, its still in the font from up there...one sec...thats better...anyway...I've had a look at the 'music festivals plc' website and it does state they own the rights to 2 more festivals they intend to launch in 2012

I appreciate that you are young and you had not started Primary School when the first Phoenix was held but Vince Powers { the promoter } has tons of experience hence why he was hired to be operational manager at Glastonbury during 2002 and 2005 - you may not be aware that Glastonbury was not held in 2001 due to the problem caused by gatecrashers in 2000 and there was a huge risk that MDC would withhold the licence if the situation was not sorted hence why Michael Eavis had to take drastic action and part of it was getting Vince involved.

The Phoenix may not be a well known name but its not a new festival - its a relaunch.

His company already runs Hop farm so all the connections are in place so its unfair to call them the newbie.

Also worth remembering that while he has bucketloads of experience the original Phoenix was beset by organisational problems and complaints that lead to it being cancelled in it's final year due to poor sales, Reading festival lost money while he was in charge (although it might still do, to be fair I don't know) and Hop Farm hasn't exactly been a raging success (although a an interesting project).

Still it'll be interesting to see what he comes up with, Phoenix usually had a pretty damn good line-up. I'd be very interested to find out what date has been chosen and therefore whether it's being pitched into competition with V/R&L or IOW/Download/Soni.

If it comes back in its old 4 day format, then I'm going for this. Not really a prediction, but if i was in charge of the festival this is who I would book:

MAIN STAGE

The Stone Roses

Beady Eye

Editors

The Vaccines

Happy Mondays

Two Door Cinema Club

The View

Bombay Bicycle Club

The Futureheads

Blink-182

Biffy Clyro

Lostprophets

Sum 41

Papa Roach

Less Than Jake

Bowling For Soup

Four Year Strong

Kasabian

Bloc Party

You Me At Six

Cypress Hill

Enter Shikari

The Subways

The King Blues

Hyro Da Hero

The Naked & Famous

The Libertines

Noel Gallagher

Mumford & Sons

The Enemy

The Gaslight Anthem

The Courteeners

Miles Kane

Wombats

Viva Brother

2nd STAGE

Pendulum

KoRn

Dizzee Rascal

Chase & Status

Florence & The Machine

Franz Ferdinand

Weezer & Paramore (Co-headline).

Assuming that the second stage is an actual outdoor stage like glasto and not a tent like R&L.

What do you all think? I reckon it'd shift a whole load of tickets.
