Kettering? oh.

As someone who went to the ones at long Marston, I was excited to hear of its return.... when actually I cant see now how it would be the same in anything other than name....

You could argue the lineup, but that's a reflection of the time and 15 years later that could be lost too.

Surely, if it does happen, its just a new venture taking advantage of some historic good will.

wherever it might be held, that was always the case.

It's a festival that failed, which is why it stopped. It's being revived, I presume, because Vince Power wants to be running more festivals, and (re)starting one that he ran before (and where he presumably holds the rights to the name) is a bit of a no-brainer really.

As someone from Kettering I honestly cant imagine where such an event could take place. Wicksteed Park has held some big outdoor events but its literally a stones throw away from housing and the parking is dysmal. I'd be very interested and excited for it to take place in Northamptonshire though!

What do you reckon is the latest they could actually announce something for this year and it still be viable?? Even if people haven't actually finalised their festival plans for this year, reckon most of us have a fair idea what we'll be doing.

It would cope OK with announcing as late as April. Other festivals do it or have done it.

But if it announced that late it would probably need at least one big exclusive headliner because of it being a 'new' fest.

anyway, today I've heard that Long Marston might be the site again. It appears to be the case that it could be either and things are still up in the air.

Word I've had today is that planning is still happening - but that it's still not definitely going to go ahead. But with planning still happening this late in the day it would appear to me that it is likely to go ahead.

I'm probably wrong but wouldn't you be able to ask the council where the site would be if they have applied for permission due to the local public's general interest or something along those lines?

licence applications are public domain info, so the council have to tell.

However, on what exact basis they have to tell I'm unsure. It's certainly the case that they have to tell if you ask about a particular site (something I've done on a number of occasions) but they might not be obliged to reveal stuff from a vaguer question.

But since the licencing laws changed around 8 years ago it's a less useful method of tracking down info. Under the old licencing laws it pretty much required a licence application to be made long in advance because they were always touch and go as to whether they'd be granted, but now it's pretty rare for a licence to be refused (as long as everything around it has been properly addressed of course) so the applications often get made much later.

I don't know where people are hearing Kettering from, but theres a chance it is the remains of the idea that it was one of the options for R1 Big Weekend.

I'm 6 miles from Kettering and i know plenty of places it could be. "near Kettering" is so unspecific. Leicester is near Kettering if you're from Scotland.

Obviously it would be "nearer Leicester" if it was actually Leicester, but you know what i mean

It's actually "kettering" and not "near kettering" that I've heard. I explanded it to "near kettering" because someone was saying there's nowhere properly within kettering, and the 'kettering' I've heard would standardly include anywhere nearby where kettering was the nearest major-ish town.

"Leeds festival" isn't in Leeds - but if you were to ask people where it is (ignoring the fact that the location is within it's name) they'd say Leeds, because it's the nearest town.
