Looking also at the Kasabian day though. It's easy to tell that more than one band will be slotted in and if it's Ten D is a FNM style way it makes sense, as there is would say The Shins for 6th and down are as high a place as them really.

Ah, I get it. Looking for some good acts low down on NME Friday (Reading) as Crystal Castles on the main stage are the first act I actually really want to see. Hoping Tribes or Howler maybe slip in there, although I reckon Tribes would fit nicely below the Horrors, or even on the main stage in that slot on Saturday?

Crystal Castles in the tent last year was great. I was far too drunk and had to leave and throw up, but being the trooper I am, I went back in. Finished just in time to see Pulp smash the mainstage with common people. Genuinely brilliant.

But are they too big or at least in your opinion to headline lockup?

Is it feasible that they could take the place above The Vaccines? I'd think not? But do you think that if it is Tenacious D, they'll be 3rd kasabian day?

I think its more to do with being getting to used to block busting lineups in the last 10 years than weak lineups(last 2 years), theres been a boom in festivals in the last 10 years especially with lineups.

You only have to look at the undercard at festivals in the late 90s to see what I mean(likes of reef playing high up), to me its just levelling itself out with lineups and ticket sales. It has always been about the festival experience and with a few bands thrown into the mix, somehow thats all changed in recent years to me more about the bands with the festival experience playing second fiddle. That has alot to do with greed though from the promotors askign to much for tickets and getting less, the bands asking to much to play and the punters expecting to much from the lineup.

Until people started talking about how wonderful it was that they'd reformed I hadn't even been aware that they'd existed in the first place. Just to check it wasn't just me I've asked lots and lots of people, and no one I know knows of them either.

So it seems pretty clear to me that they were a nothing band and the way to excite the kids with a band nowadays is to say they've just reformed and the kids will lap it up believing they must be something special.

Now that might be me being extremely foolish and perhaps I lived in a non-musical pit for the 5 seconds they made an impact in whatever year they were extremely briefly famous, but given that Annie Mac announced The Cure as "reformed two years ago" with the announcement last night yet The Cure have never stopped existing in any reality I've lived in (tho they've played only occasionally), I really reckon I'm onto the way to market stuff to today's foolish youf.

No, they are as big as other Lock Up headlines. Personally I'm hoping they end up on mid/high NME as Cure, At The Drive In & Foos are good set of headliners and I don't want a clash.

I think the Crystal Castles booking is a little tester from FR to see if they will be able to make the move towards a sub-headliner slot in the near future. If they flop, they'll probably headline NME soon, but it is still pretty weird for them to be on main.
