They stormed it lat time they headlined (2003?? )and as far as remember told the Eavii that they would come back whenever invited.

Don't personally think they'll play this year, but it would be great if they did.

I'd be overjoyed with REM as an addition. I was a huge fan from Green up to New Adventures in HiFi but never got to see them. I think their later stuff went off the boil a bit though and TBH haven't given anthing after Reveal much of a listen. Would still deffo see them.

just sitting and listening at the back of the pyramid in 2003 was magical.

but then i did see them twice on the green tour, and again in 1999...

listen to 'accelerate'.

the perfect antidote to the disappointments of 'reveal' and 'around the sun'.

*snip*

Up and Accelerate are good IMHO and there's stuff worth salvaging off Reveal and Around The Sun e.g. Saturn Returns and Leaving New York. Definitely been a drop off in consistency but still patches of brilliance

From about 3.07 onward, when the chorus comes back in ("you might have left if I told you") is to die for. Utterly sublime harmonies

Big REM fan and when I opened this thread the first thing I thought was 'I'm going to listen to Leaving New York on youtube right now', and behold I find a link further down the thread :) Fantastic track and easily one of my favourites.

As for playing, they'd have to headline. No question. Theres never been a band the size of REM on the bill that hasn't headlined and they wouldn't be different. I think that if they were asked they might play, say for example, before U2, but I can't see ME doin that at all. I'm sure he'd have too much respect for them to even ask the question for them to appear anywhere but headline. He'd just ask them to headline 2013 if he wanted them. And I'm sure he and Emily think of them as definite Pyramid headliners in terms of size. Nowhere else.

Up is an amazing album and 'walk unafraid' at glasto 99 is still one of the most dramatic and powerful performances of any song I have experienced.

Their later work is certainly under-appreciated, i have been listening to accellerate alot lately.

I'd love for them to play, I think they would make an insane other stage headliner, but as stated, this is a band that is likely to be pyramid headline or not at all (except maybe secret gig at park, maybe?)

    • Disclosure Day was fun.  It's very Spielberg but probably not an all time classic Spielberg. Nothing particularly original but it's well made, good performances (exceptional performance by Emily Blunt) and for a 2 hour plus blockbuster it flew by. Not everything worked, but I don't want to say why to avoid spoiling. Then again, it's not like there are too many shocks in this film.
    • Do these early birds tickets sell out fast, or is it ok to wait for the w-e ?
    • He's still got the whole festival period on his tour dates list. The 4th is given as the Mac's Record Label showcase, which was separately announced for that date (obviously it's unlikely Mac would be on a different date to his own project)     I had AdP third down on Woods but Lucinda Williams pulling out and her de facto replacement playing a different day mixed things up, coupled with Ty Segall playing Garden solo last year.
