Concerns raised at overcrowding

Getting to the night time stuff on the Friday or Saturday (can't mind which) was pretty bad.

It always is if you're there with the main flow of people. Show me anywhere with thousands of people trying to access it at once and I'll show you a queue.

It doesn't mean it's a danger by itself and it doesn't mean it's overcrowded by itself.

There's no doubt things that can be done to improve the situation but it's never going to be the case of simply strolling in.

As long as people aren't being a dick and believing that they're too important to wait as anyone else might have to then it's really not a problem. Unfortunately there always are a few of those self-important pricks.

Screening the England game on Wednesday was THE major factor for overcrowding on Wednesday, Block 9, The Common and Arcadia were very busy but manageable, though trying to get Shangri La and the Unfair ground at night was a nightmare scary crush caused mainly by the one way system.

......and yes definately more entertainent on Wednesday and Thursday night please.

I liked the two complaints that the council had received.

I may write to them and complain about the crap line up and that it was far too hot for a northerner

and where was the promised Nando's !

I liked the two complaints that the council had received.

I suspect that the complaints overall are just about at the level where they can safely be ignored - I think it's likely that the majority come from the same people year after year, and who will always complain simply because they dislike people having fun that causes an inconvenience to them.

Those sorts of people cause their own issues onto others, but they're too up themselves to realise. They like to go (say) shopping, and clog up roads, cause car parks to be built, green land lost to shopping centres, etc, or (my weekly pet hate) go to church on Sundays and don't give a flying feck about what obtructions they cause with their cars (is the 11th commandment "be inconsiderate to worship your Lord"? ;)). It's no different, but they consider their own actions as legitimate and anything they dislike as not. Morons.

And I have to laugh at someone in Glastonbury town complaining about stage noise, which must have passed hundreds of other people to reach there. OK you idjut, let's kill the festival and see your town go back to being a sleepy market town that no one is interested in so there's no jobs, no shops and no life for you there any more.

It was a little bad near the main stage during Gorillaz, massive overcrowding there and quite a few tents nearby were trampled down, which , as much as we all say they should camp somewhere more sensible, would still be a bitch to come back to. Luckily, from a personal point of view, it persuaded me to cut my losses and watch the Lips, and they were awesome!

I agree, its a story out of nothing. It was probably written because some statistics had been requested and they had only just been released recently. Wasn't there a bigger capacity this year? Anyway, so long as they learn the lesson regarding the 4 hour queues it should run smoothly. Maybe they will allocate yet more space for the late night areas as a result?

does'nt seem like much concern to me and the quote below is all we need to know!

"However this was said to have put pressure on the smaller venues on the Wednesday and Thursday nights as the main stages do not open until Friday. The council recommended extra entertainment on these nights to help prevent overcrowding in these areas."

Bring it on!! :D

I never noticed any issues but that's because I deliberatley avoided crowded areas and got to places like Shangri La early to avoid the crowds. Like has been said, if people behave like considerate humans and look after eachother, the problem is erased.

The letting people in the carpark overnight was a nightmare for us-back of the queuefor a 4 hour wait in blazing heat and left sun tan lotion in the car...FAIL

I think that maybe splitting the late night area might help to ease the inevitable congestion around shangri la. Prob making more use of the dance village seems the most logical answer. I don't think there is too much that can be done to ease congestion by the pyramid stage

Otherwise the council seem happy, the opening on Tuesday worked very well. The queue at gate D was mental by all accounts but you would think that they;ll have learnt from that

They could keep acts on clubhenge til late next year to help with the congestion :P

Sounds good the council are saying moar entertainments though!....I do agree anywhere with masses of people heading into something will cause some sort of crowd, most people however don't seem to understand this for some strange reason.

I didn't have any problems in the latenight areas this year except in the Rabbit Hole on Saturday because after Jarvis Cocker, everyone seemed to want to get through the first tunnel at the same time, so I didn't bother trying. And Friday one of the paths from one area to another was crowded, but it didn't take long to get out of it. So no real issues at all.

On Sunday I ducked out of Stevie Wonder a few minutes early to properly do Shangri-la at night, and was saddened to see most everything was closed. Then I fell asleep waiting for Birdy Nam Nam and everything was opened again, so I didn't stick around for much of their set because I had a lot of exploring left to do. Had no problems getting there at all on Sunday night. That's the trick to beat the crowd: watch the end of a headliner from the back and then run. Just don't bother with the main path (the wooded area).

I've never really had a problem with overcrowding at Glasto. I think the worst it got fo me was trying to leave the pyramid after Stevie Wonder to head to The Park. But it's to be expected.

I don't think it was anymore crowded this year than any other i've been. My memory is obviously very hazy.

The late night area was a nighmare one night, but mainly because we had a crowd of about 12 people and it was hell trying to keep everyone together and we all got pissed at each other. hahaha. Never again.

There were certainly more bottlenecks there this year than I can remember for some years. Yes, they are difficult to avoid forming, but I'm sure the festival will make all the effort they can to avoid them where possible in the billing; site planning etc.
