Sunday 'American' headliner

I've just done a bit of a search on Madonna and she has no plans on releaseing an album next year. I highly doubt she'll play, as she's the type of artist who wouldn't rehearse for a one of show or ensemble the massive production team she would require just for a one off. I'm pretty certain she wont do it next year.

Although, it seems she's up for the idea - part of her key strategy for new albums, apparently, is doing a few high profile shows to promote a new album and up and coming tour, the tour being her main priority currently as that's where she draws her biggest income. So I guess a Glastonbury performance would fit this perfectly, giving the amount of media attention it gets, and I'm sure so much of the repeated coverage by the beeb would focus heavily on her.

Many people on these forums seem to think Kylie would get a penultimate slot. Could you imagine Kylie support by Madonna? It would be too much.

Ignoring the fact they headlined in '05?

Prince sounds plausible. And presumably the cash he got for his Roskilde performance has cleared up his little tiff with MCD, so he's free to play in Europe again without it costing him an arm and a leg (I say presumably, since they had an order to withold any earnings from European work)...So, his Purpleness, U2 and Radiohead would do nicely please!

Is there really though? He mentioned it being a woman in the post-festival review, which was then pretty much denied by Emily, and in the two interviews since then haven't mentioned a woman at all

i'm pretty sure he days "her" when referring to that act he was talking about yesterday, tho it's not 100% clear that's what he says.

it does sound like 'her'

so let's recap:

One of the headliners is an american 'she' who he's been trying to get for yonks.

One of the headliners is a 'she' who's been before, but it's not necessarily the same 'she' (but it could be?)

And there's another confirmed (presumably Radiohead... at the end of Thom's set at the Park, he said, "see you, literally")

Also, when ME says headliners, is it necessarily Pyramid headliners?

Though I've not heard the radio interview ME gave, I think people are reading a little too much into the 'her' being American.

From what I've read of the interesting bits of the interview, I believe the her to be Kylie, as not only has ME wanted her to headline for a while, plus the pulling out a few years back due to health reasons, she was indeed at the festival this year(scissor sisters guest appearance), but obviously didn't headline, and I believe ME quite highly rates her, she would quite easily pull off the Sunday headline slot, due to her being mainstream pop/commercial songs.

As for the other two headline acts, I'm more than certain that Radiohead will be one of them, more than likely the Saturday headline, and again they appear to be one of ME's favourite bands, while also (thom yorke & johnny greenwood) having a guest slot at this years festival, and we're last headlining back in 2003, so would be 8 years gap, between appearances.

As for the Friday, I'm sure that there's some truth in the fact that ME's asked U2 to come and headline the Friday, due to pulling out this year, but as they haven't confirmed the slot could easily be filled by an American band/artist, which he has wanted at the festival for a while.... Prince seems a good shout, though could also be a big American band, thinking possibly along the likes of Pearl Jam, or another classic band....

i've just listened to it 4 times on the trot and i'm so sure he doesn't say "she"...which i'm thrilled about. He does say stupid things sometimes ME, but surely he's not stupid enough to let a "she" slip out. Plus the interviewers would have caught that out and thrown a few names surely (although weak effort on their part for not throwing some american names at him right there and then).

Eagles was a very good shout by someone on here (Foos have already played, Green Day would have been easy, not a "try for years and years" effort) but he does say "artist" and if it were a band he might have said "act", so i do indeed think it's a solo artist. something just tells me from the silence about a female artist in the time since glasto, Em's possible suggestion that her dad wasn't being accurate, that we might truly finally getting Prince. Perhaps Stevie playing it this year, finally lent it some credibility to Prince's management (despite the lack of a massive fee). Madonna vs. Prince. who will it be? I just think Prince is so much more likely to do something like this as not part of a massive tour of some sort vis-a-vis the Mad One. Let it Be!

well you wouldn't - the word you should be listening for is "her", not "she". :P

To me it sounds like he says "an American artist, I've wanted her for years and years".

If it's not "her", what word is it?

    • Tbf that happened to me in 2022 so not a one off. 40 euros to drive down 3 streets. I'd have done a runner but the reason for getting the taxi in the first place is cos I couldn't walk no more.
    • I was fully prepared (waterproof jacket, extra pair of socks, foldable umbrella), but after four hours in the rain (from Geese through Oklou to Florence Road), it was just too much. Already at the hotel, let's hope tomorrow's better.
    • It’s rare that I watch question time, but I almost felt sorry for Kenyon, he seemed like a guy just brought off the street which effectively is what he was, made worse by the fact Burnham and the Tory guy were very strong debaters. I think Burnham was very aware not to go too hard on Kenyon and risk him getting sympathy, in fact he pretty much ignored him.
    • Shambles. Transport and comms garbage. Been looking forward to this since last June and have never been to a more disorganised festival in 30+ years.  Why we were told the whole festival was cancelled for the night if they had put back shows for a few hours?  Pissed off to say the very least and put a huge downer on the rest of the weekend.
