Utd are the masters of winning games where they get outplayed - not that shitty out played them by very much at all in this particular game IMO. There's been plenty of games over the years where Utd have barely got a kick, but have still come out with the result.

On the basis of any single example of those games you'd sensibly conclude that Utd were lucky. On the evidence of them doing that for the best part of 20 years you have to conclude that it's a skill that they're unrivalled at, much as they are for hacking down players on the break in the mildest way possible, which for any other player at any other club it would get a yellow.

I hate them winning for reasons exactly like that, but all the same I realise that these are the sorts of skills they have above other teams which brings them their success. It's not like the vast majority of their players over the fergie years would rate at the top or near the top of many lists of 'the best' on the sorts of skills that most fans appreciate, but within what they do to get their success (and I'm not meaning just the bits that bug me, before someone starts) they're the very best.

I've not seen that 'dive', so it's hard to comment on specifically.

But if it happened as you say, then - apart from being massive cheating, obviously - it might be nothing more than his own choice.

Probably confirmation that foreign players often dive a fair bit when they get here. From Ronaldo to Arteta they've all done it, get off your high horse. Suarez was no worse than most of the league, he'll learn what is acceptable.

I'm astounded at the lack of points picked up in the last three Sunderland games. We played Spurs off the park yesterday, ripped Stoke apart and openly competed with the best Chelsea performance I've ever seen, yet zero points.

We're a miles better side with Sessignon and are playing some really special stuff. We're just letting in too many goals without Cattermole and Turner in the side. We've let 9 goals in the last three games. Gordon has been poor.

I've still not seen that 'dive'.

But I have just read a report of the match that says "could have had a penalty in the first minute" (which I presume is the incident you're talking about), with no mention of a dive. Perhaps it's a case of blue mist?

In terms of man utd, I would say the giggs goal in the fa cup semi final was better and took a lot more skill. Rooneys was great but theres always an element of hit and hope about that type of goal. There are players with far less abiltity than rooney who cans core similar goals in leagues below the premiership. I agree that the size of the game and timing have contributed to the hype but would still contend that it is overhyped due to the player who scored it being the highest profile english footballer. If Nani, Berbatov or chiquarito scored the same goal, it would be hyped as a great goal but probably not one of the greatest premeirship goals of all time, as some have said about rooneys.

Berba did a 'bicycle' kick earlier this season (a little less of an 'overhead' than Rooney's yesterday), and if my memory isn't lying (and it might be) wasn't that a goal?

From the little I remember of it, it took more skill than Rooney needed yesterday - not because Rooney did anything amiss, he struck the ball as sweetly as it's possible to - but because he had less time and space than Rooney had yesterday.
