Liverpool and dirty Mag bastards have been doing my tits in today. Liverpool are overjoyed at the signing and Newcastle are gutted. I've tried to educate them in that it's the best sale Newcastle have ever made and the worst purchase in Liverpool's history, but they won't have it. I used to like Liverpool, but this whole response to Torres malarky and boasting about past European exploits has put me right off.

Yep - I've said quite a few times that my thinking is that it'll prove to be a poor deal.

But unlike some I'm not firmly fixed on that idea just yet. A guess is just a guess, and means very little without something of substance behind it - and we only get that substance when we see what happens on the field.

And even if Carroll turns out to not be all that for this season, that's not the end of it. He's young and so likely to improve in the next few years, and it's at the point where he moves on to another club where a proper evaluation of the deal gets to be made.

Well, I base it upon the fact that he hasn't done anything at all to justify a price tag of 35 million pounds.

no player is bought for what they've done in the past, they're bought for what they'll do in the future.

Then all you need do is question whether Liverpool have ever bought someone so over the odds as that and whether Newcastle have ever sold someone so over the odds as that? The answer gives us the conclusion.

whether that's the case for either club has yet to be established.

Carroll is a huge risk at that price, but it might turn out to be the bargain of the decade. Dalglish has a pretty good record at buying young strikers for silly money that turn out to be bargains. Whether this will be another one we've yet to see.

What the transfer of Torres has now proved is that Liverpool are now a 3rd tier club, not even a 2nd tier anymore. They just lost one of the best strikers in the world who says its "destiny" to play and score against them on Sunday and says joining Chelski is a step up. They play a shite style of football in a shitty old, small, stadium (I've been there, its a kip). They've just paid 35 million for an unproven player whos a total thug and didn't want to go to the club in the first place. They've lost ten games so far this season, wont qualify for the Champions League (again) and they're getting dominated at home by teams like Fulham.

And I won't mention the obsession with their history - they still sing "Where were you in Istanbul" to Michael Owen!! That was six years ago!!

I cant blame Torres for leaving but the way he did it was shabby.

Which is an assessment based upon their past performances and present credentials.

yep - and his 'past performance' is scoring more goals per minute in the Prem than Torres this season, and his present credentials are that he's expected to be the next big English striker who has 10 or more good years in him, plus improvements in his play to come.

Such things have a price.

Quite a hefty one it seems right now, but if he lives up to the potential some believe he has then he's a bargain.

What we're looking at in terms of monetary value is potential and that can only be based upon past performances and present credentials. To date, he's not shown anything near the kind of potential that would attract a 35 million pound fee.

He might not have shown that potential to your satisfaction, but he clearly has to others. Such as:-

1. Postman Pat.

2. 'Arry

3. Dalglish &/or Camoli.

Daglish has a decent record of signing young strikers and making them a huge success. Maybe Carroll will be the next one.

And while 'Arry enjoys spending other people's money, he's no mug either.

Even Dalglish admitted that they should have lost, nevermind feel themselves lucky with a win.

No, he said they were lucky to win.

And they were, cos the winning goal was as flukey as the one that Cole scored against Brum in the Carling Cup semi first leg.

But Fulham didn't dominate them. Fulham were the better team at points, yes (but such things is the case in nearly any match), but for a minority of the game.

And it should be pointed out - cos people forget it - that Torres scored a crackin' goal in the first few minutes which was ruled out for offside but which wasn't offside.
