If by that you mean twist the facts and exploit what has and has not been said to suit yourself, then fine.

As you well know, I did not make a bet with you that Bent and Jones would score 25+ goals when on the pitch together. I never once agreed that this was the bet. So profound is your insideousness that you used other people to try and pressure me into accepting that this was the bet, WITHOUT MY CONSENT.

You can seriously f**k off Neil. Of all your attempts to make things personal between us over the years, this is your one and only success. I'm finished talking about it...............

On the same basis you worthless turd, the bet you now say you agreed to was not the bet that you agreed to. The bet you agreed to was them "scoring goals in partnership" - as in when they played the ball between them to bring about a goal - and not what you decided to say it was later, and not even what others here wrongly interpreted it as being.

So on the strict terms of the bet you agreed to, you lost fair and square. :)

I agreed to reduce those strict terms to be something else that was more in your favour. You still lost that bet too.

You whelshed on the bet you agreed to, and you whelshed on a looser interpretation of that bet which you also agreed to.

So which ever way you want to look at it, you lost fair and square. But you didn't pay up, cos you're a worthless c**t.

and i'm still waiting on you to pay up with words where i implied that carroll was guaranteed to be shit. and i'm not even asking for cash.

I posted (essentially) "he might well be shit, but who knows", to which you replied (essentially) "I think he'll be shit".

Agreeing with what I'd posted but restating the same thing in stronger terms as tho I'd not said anything about it implied to me that you were trying to hammer home your certain opinion that he would be shit.

Perhaps that's not what you were meaning, but that's how I took it.

my point was the exact same as what you were 'arguing' with me about. that nobody knows. only i was stating it to highlight the deluded, blinkered view of some liverpool fans declaring them as a success and a great deal already.

On paper - within the overall context (which wasn't fully within Liverpool's control) of everything that was going on - it is a great deal.

Liverpool's options for buying a new striker were very limited by who could be bought and who would accept a move to a non-Chumps League club. They become even more limited if the intention is as Liverpool's is, to not piss money up the wall by buying a player who would have no resale value and whose wages would be at the very top level.

The thing that decides if it is really a great deal or not is whether Carroll lives up to expectations - but that's a risk with any transfer at any price. For example, it's just as possible that Torres will fail to perform at the expected level for Chelsea as it is for Carroll at Liverpool.

The more that I think about the Carroll buy within the full context of everything, the better it looks. It's only when you look at "Carroll for £35M" in isolation that it seems completely nuts, because he's of course not worth that in general terms at the moment - but he's quite possibly worth that to Liverpool because they had limited options, and not buying anyone would have been a much worse move. They'd have had to over-pay whoever they might have signed.

Of Liverpool and Newc, right at this moment, who has got the worse deal? I'd say Newc by quite a long way, because they've been left short of an important player and shown themselves as club which any player can be taken from. In comparison at Liverpool, while they've been shown as club that any important player can be taken from, they've also shown themselves as not sitting still with that situation - and that by itself will save them millions in the transfer market over coming years, because they won't have to over-pay in more normal transfer circumstances because of having shown a lack of ambition. Newc won't get a replacement of Carroll's current skill and future potential without paying more than they sold Carroll for, even in the more normal transfer circumstances.

You were trying to hold up irrational garbage spouted by over-zealous fans Neil.

yeah, that's why I've said many many times that I more expect it to turn out to be a bad deal than I do a good deal.

Buy yourself a real dictionary, rather than invent your own idiot meanings only suitable for idiots like you.

there's no doubt newcastle have got the worse deal with regards to this season. even if he was signed a week ago, would they have got in a striker that is as good, if not better than carroll? unlikely. as a whole though, they can do a lot with their squad for £35m. if pardew is any good at buying that is, don't know his record.

and i'd agree with you on torres being a bigger risk. i would love it if he turned out to be a shevchenko. again, unlikely but if his injury record keeps up, there's no doubt £50m was a stupid price to pay for him.

i personally think that liverpool are on the up with this move. you all know my views on torres and how over-rated i think he is. and i've no doubt carroll will score goals for liverpool.

it's just the way that some on facebook were defending it 100%, not hearing a bad word said about the deal and saying that they would be a success that made me mention it.

i'm not naive enough to realise that they both might turn out to be duds though.

just looking at wiki, and ngog scored 1 in 18 for psg. why on earth did benitez think he would turn out to be great?

Utterly irrelevant.

You countered ampers example of their idiocy by saying that they might be right because no one knows. When in fact they can't possibly be right because no one knows.

Whether you or ampers or liverpool fans think they'll turn out to be a good or bad partnership has f**k all to do with it.

If you had more than two brain cells to rub together, you'd have noticed the other words I've included which makes what you've posted here the same moronic crap as you always manage.

LEARN TO f**kING READ YOU MORON.

Oh I did. And no it doesn't. You started an exchange on an idiotic premise and accused ampers of a load of nonsensical and irrelevant shit on the back of it. You do this an awful lot. You know, making arguments out of f**k all.

the only person round here starting an exchange on an idiotic premise is you with this.

Small minded twat.

well, they're at least trying to be "on the up" - which has a value in itself, as I've mentioned above.

Whether they actually are "on the up" depends on how their buys work out, but with the silly price for Carroll put aside for a moment they both look like decent buys that might work out very well.

it's just the way that some on facebook were defending it 100%, not hearing a bad word said about the deal and saying that they would be a success that made me mention it.

Yeah, but supporters are meant to support. The clue is in the word. :P

The likes of you and me are able to take a more measured view, because we're not supporters.

(Having said that, I'd like things to work out cos I want Kenny to succeed for old times sake. As a kid I supported Liverpool).

Jeez, is everyone still banging on about this.

You spend more time arguing over interpretations of what you've said than what's actually happened.

My tuppenceworth (or less today) is to say that it was nice of Neil to tempt fate for Utd fans yesterday with his Rooney badge kissing post.

I fully expect another 15 goals pre the end of March now as Utd stroll to their 19th title, or is it the 20th? I forget.

i know but there's support and then there blinkered as you like to call it.

yup, very true.

But at the same time, I (and perhaps you) didn't have a great opinion of Carroll anyway. There are people (including some posting here, as can be seen by searching back in this thread) that think he's a very good player now - and if that was a Liverpool supporter's opinion of Carroll before they bought him then they'll of course carry on with that after they've bought him.

But it's probably really just the standard supporters 'hope' thing, in a similar way fans will go to a game that they expect to lose hoping they'll win. But whereas with a game reality kicks in so you don't say "they're going to win" when you think they won't, there's no reality to work from yet with Carroll at Liverpool - so there's only the hope that get talked about, tho with nothing to balance it it's now a certainty.

It's nothing peculiar to just Liverpool. I don't know how it was received in Spain, but* I've got no doubt if things were reversed and Skippy's Utd career with the same success had been at Real and then Utd had bought him for £80M, that would be lauded as a great buy (rather than the great sell many Utd fans choose to view it as). From one angle it would be of course, but it looks less good if you think that Utd could have (just about) had another Rooney, another Berba, and another Rio all for the same money.

(* chosen only for these reasons:- 1. there's no transfer of a young player similar to Carroll's that I can think of, and 2. Skippy's is the only other really silly money transfer that comes to mind)

So while everyone is ridiculing those Liverpool fans for getting ahead of themselves, many of the people doing the ridiculing will be doing much the same themselves at their clubs buys in the next window. It's an aspect of fan-ism.

If I'm remembering rightly, it's been done in this thread this season by someone who'll think I'm getting at him if I name him. ;)

like if we were to suddenly come into the situation that we had 1m to spend on someone and it all went on one player which i thought was a bad deal, i'd let it be known.

I would too.

But, my god, most people are more than happy to keep their gobs shut within their jobs to stay 'on message' (even when presented by the most stupid ideas ;)), so it's hardly surprising that so many do it for something close to their hearts.

i'd like to think i am measured when it comes to my own team. as measured as you can be anyway.

Everyone thinks that. No one is. :P

PMSL :lol::lol::lol:

I wonder what odds you could have got this time last year with a bet on Rooney doubling his Prem scores for this season in just one match in February? Huge I would have thought!

But yeah, Utd have really kicked into gear in the last few weeks, and it's difficult to see how they might lose it. The one thing against them is that they've got a shit run-in this year, so there is the possibility they could blow it.

But the way they're going right now it looks like they might stay unbeaten. While it won't have been done with the same style and dominance as Arsenal managed, in many ways it'd be more impressive because of that, with them having played so poorly at times in that dodgy spell.

And we all thought it was Utd...... was sure you said you had a Steve Coppell poster in your room at some stage.

You're almost right, in that you're wrong.

Mostly here I get accused of being an Arsenal fan. ;)

I have greater sympathies towards many other clubs than them. What I am is a football fan above everything else, which is where Arsenal comes in.
