So 40 odd page debates isn't considering other things ? Get over yourself....

Some times those debates strengthen what I feel other times I change my mind... To call me an idiot and trying to suggest I just adopt a Daily Mail style ideas is bollocks... Although I never read it other than via links people post here....

I think the idea of conservatives trying to get british people to sell off their employment rights is an absolute disgrace. It would lead to a very slippery slope where eventually workers rights would go and get nothing in return. Listening to bits on the radio/tv news all I have heard is policies about hitting the poor, hittting the richest sounds good but suspiciously lacking in detail. Its likes Mp pensions "we think we should have our terms cut in line with everyone else". Just trust us and dont ask how we will achieve it,

The Tories held that seat for nearly 70 years. Usually with a majority of more than 10,000.

there's other seats nearby which the tories have held almost forever, but which have gone LibDem in the last decade or two. Guildford for one (which is tory again for the mo).

So I don't think it's necessarily a given any more that seats around the south east are a god-given right to the tory party. There's too much of the too-still-present nasty party in the tories for them to appeal too much to many of those sorts of areas.

However, having said all of that...

He would win that constituency should he stand, and claim a scalp in the process.

I don't doubt that for a second. it's a sign of just how fucking stupid the electorate is, and completely explains why this country is fucked and will stay that way.

I think he's talking about Justin Lee Collins' punishment for subjecting his ex-girlfriend to a horrendous campaign of physical and mental abuse.

ahh, right. I'd missed what sentence he'd got.

I think the BBC nearly got themselves in trouble yesterday over this. In the first reports they gave after he was found guilty they were calling him a 'comedian'. Someone must have wised them up to the trades descriptions act, cos in later reports he was a 'tv presenter'.

Its such a shame he'll never have to face these accusations. the Met say they're dealing with 140 separate cases! Staggering how this never got to court while we was alive.

I'm not quite sure what's going to be achieved by a police investigation, seeing he's dead. I do recognise the point behind it, but I still can't help thinking it all seems rather pointless.

I heard a snippet on radio 4 earlier, which had the guy who did the ITV programme saying that he's since been contacted by coppers and ex-coppers from all round the country, who've told him they opened an investigation into Saville at various times.

It's starting to sound like a classic case of everyone knowing some more minor & perhaps unprovable allegations, but no one ever joining up the dots to make a damning whole.

With regards to too many women still being treated like that in the workplace: It would help if the men who behaved that way weren't treated like fucking heroes and those who speak out treated like scum.

After Liz Kershaws comments at the weekend I was wondering if the John Peel accusations would resurface.

My guess is that Liz's accusations have a home elsewhere. The power at Radio 1 in her time very definitely was not Peel.

(I'm avoiding giving a name because of fear of comeback).

I think the investigation is more than a gesture to give the victims closure. With the weight of evidence coming to the fore his victims may be able to make a claim against his estate not to mention against any institution found to have covered things up.

Oh, I know. But I still can't help feeling it all seems rather pointless when he's dead.

I'm also not hugely comfortable with the general idea (rather than anything specific about this case) of people making allegations of the dead who can't then defend themselves when they've had plenty of time previously to make those allegations - and then profiting by it by suing his estate. (In relation to this case, I completely understand why they might have chosen not to make the allegations previously, and I've no actual objection to them being properly compensated from his estate for what they've suffered ... and I realise that's not consistent).
