it's Babylon  ... I try very hard to keep out of there, I've been perhaps 5 times since it opened.

I love the design, seemed really original to me, also tried that restaurant which is the biggest in the UK. Was less impressed with that

Heh, I miss Bristol. It used to be one of my favourite cities (along with Norwich and York).

I was born in the area, moved away, lived in Weston and Somerset for a while in the late 80s

Bristol always used to have good record shops, comic book shops and plenty of character.

according to my kid who lives in Plymouth, the 'Circus' there (I forget what that one is called, but its owned by the same company) is pretty similar (tho I don't think that one is open like Bristol).

What definitely isn't original are the shops within it - they're the same shops as on every high street selling all exactly the same things.... and all the shops that I choose to avoid.

nicer than the shopping centres up here you want to try Meadowhall. I used to love the fact when I lived in Reading that the Oracle won some award such as "most elegant reconstruction of a city centre river front" and it involved slapping a mcdonalds down next to it sarcastic.gif

I just found out that Dinosaur Jr have a new album out biggrin.png

Only 2 tracks in and it's fuckin excellent so far

Havn't given it a listen but Farm was brilliant.

Remember seeing them playing Shepherds Bush Empire with Built to Spill and Yuck before they got "big", what a gig. At the start everyone was just standing there but by the end it was a full on mosh pit, not too bad for a London crowd!

Damn when was that? I still haven't seen them live :( Just checked the latest tour dates and nothing in the UK.

A few years ago now, me and my mate practically worshiped J Mascis and seeing them was everything I could have hoped for. It is still the loudest gig I've ever been to, even with the shitty sound at Shepherds Bush. I was right at the front and couldn't hear properly for about a week after the gig, worth it though.

I remember that show, I thought that was probably the 2nd weakest performance I've seen from them. It was certainly the 2nd quietest. They were far far louder a few days earlier in Oxford. A lot better than they were supporting the Lips at Ally Pally, but of the 8-9 times I've seen them that was one of the least intense.

Corporation tax is a scam to get business people get away with low taxes.

I know - I was on it once. Got moaned-at for it too.

Oh I know, it's one of the easiest fiddles going.

My company 'profit' exists only so far as my caution in not over-paying myself in wages go. It's not being used by me as a tax-avoiding scam, only as a buffer from potential insolvency.

If I ever get to make (inclusive of dividends) above the UK minimum wage on an hourly rate or above 3/4's of the UK average wage in any year I'll let you know.

To be fair that was the only gig I've seen from them, and Shepherds Bush Empire is a pretty crappy venue as well in terms of sound, saw St. Vincent there a few months back and the sound was terrible for her. I just loved it because I was finally seeing a band who me and my mate have loved for ages and it was a brilliant experience for us!

I've seen them 8 times now, and J Mascis solo twice. I don't mind Shepherds Bush too much, it's a bit crap but not that bad.
