My set of UV reflective fabric paint has arrived. Six 30ml bottles for £20. Yellow, Blue, Green, Orange, Pink, Purple.

I already have the stencils cut out for Yoda and two different Darths. Other ideas in production.

Will post some pictures of the creation process, though I don't have any blacklight here so I'll have to wait for a snap at Kendal to see them in their full glory.

My car insurance was only £600!! (instead of £1800) Not bad at all for a first time driver & 19 years old!

I recently had to get insurance for a campervan that I bought. I filled out the form twice. One saying I hadn't got a conviction, which came up at £380 fully comprehensive. I then filled it out again saying I had a conviction. This came to £4.8K for annual insurance!

I've got a caravan and belong to the Camping and Caravan Club. That does significantly reduced rate insurance for members that might be worth checking out.

Thanks grumpyhack. I'm sorted for insurance now. I may well join that Club though. I haven't read about it but her indoors has and she wants us to join. I don't think I stand a chance of not becoming a member!

you really should stop advertising that bunch of sharks. ;)

I've got my cv insurance with them (well, actually CCC insurance is with Devitt).

I paid around £250 the first year and £380 the second year. The next renewal price came thru and it was for around £750pa.

So I phoned them up, and they'd made a "mistake". A 'mistake' that they couldn't tell me how it'd happened but a 'mistake' they had no interest into looking into for why it happened. Funny that.

A 'mistake' that revealed they'd over-charged me the 2nd year too, because the insurance in the 3rd year was cheaper than it had been in the second - when nothing about my circumstances had changed, tho the campervan was being valued at a 40% higher price for the 3rd year than it had been the 2nd year.

It's guaranteed, they will attempt to rip off all of their customers by making up a number for the insurance cost and hoping that mug punters will pay it.

My main reason for joining the CCC was actually an accident I had with my trailer tent when it 'detached itself' - OK I hadn't hooked it up properly - on my first outing. The trailer veered past my car and careered smack into the front of an oncoming car at a busy road junction in the Friday night rush hour in the pouring rain.

I rang the AA, which I belonged to, and they said, more or less, "Piss off, we're not interested in trailers or caravans,"

That led to me checking out the RAC, who have a discounted rate membership for members of the CCC and a package called Arrival which covers recovering both your car and caravan or trailer tent.

I've used them a couple of times since and have been impressed with their service.

Incidentally, I don't actually insure my car with the CCC. That's done through my brother-in-law who is the MD of a very big firm of insurance brokers. I don't even check to see if it's the best deal as sometimes family loyalties have to come first and, also, I know that if it ever comes to a claim he'll make sure things go through smoothly.

So my award for a bunch of sharks goes to the AA - and I'm not going to use this forum to name/advertise my brother in law's company.

they don't have an issue with campervans, even relaying them. Been there, done that (10+ years ago).

==============================

Meanwhile, I am the luckiliest luckiest person walking this earth right now....

I've just been out in the campervan doing some errands, and then pulled up back outside my house. As I was getting out of the van I could smell a burning smell, but thought it was something nearby.

As I got out a guy shouted at me "your van is on fire". I said "where?" and he pointed at drops of fire falling onto the ground under the engine.

I started shouting "get a fire extinguisher" (I've had a T25 go up in flames before, see the comment about AA relaying above) as I know that fires on these vans are normally from the fuel pipes*, anbd rapidly opened the back, pulled out a mass of camping gear that was up to the roof, took off the engine cover, to see fires in two places.

(* cos I know that, the very first thing I did when I bought the van was have the fuel pipes changed)

Very very luckily they were both small, and both were burning wires ... and I even managed to blow them out with my mouth.

Of course I've now got a fucked van that won't drive until I sort out the damage, but the damage is very minimal - three of the HT leads are burnt to buggery, and an earth wire from the LPG fuel switch is buggered too, but that's it. It's about £20 for the bits and about ten minutes work to then fix.

I just can't believe how lucky that is. The whole van would have been destroyed if matey hadn't been walking down the road ... and with a 55Ltr tank of gas plus two calor gas bottles in there, there's a big chance the front of my house would be blown in too.

I just can't believe how lucky that is.

Lucky lucky lucky.

OMG. Time for the biggest spliff going.

The sliding door on my converted Transit campervan broke last night. I'd parked it on a slope and the door had gone past it's normal stopping point. I spent ages trying to fix the thing but wasn't getting anywhere. I rang up the AA as I'm a member (of the AA, that is!). I had expected them to say it's not a break down so we're not coming out. They didn't. They came out and fixed it, completing the job in less than 10 minutes. I've only ever had a good service from them. They do try it on every year with higher charges though. You just have to go through to their Retentions Department and say you can get cover much cheaper elsewhere and then they drop the price.

Giving Ye Olde Walking Boots a jolly good seeing to :O Not that there's anything significantly enjoyable about being present when a pair of ancient and it has to be said somewhat 'fragrant' boots are having a good old time with a tin of dubbin and all that but given that it's not dark/cold/windy/wet/snowy/icy at the mo it can mean only one thing ... it's almost time for them to enjoy their annual several week summer outing and the best bit is that I get to tag along as well  Bye-bye real world and cr@p various for 4 and a bit weeks, yay :D

I am happy because I feel that next year might well be the best year of my life. I am also happy because I've gained enough confidence to not care too much about what people think of me, so much so that I will now be performing in a band as front man. Life is sweet at the moment.

Congratulations. I wish I'd had the same perspective many years ago, instead of stiffling myself by worrying about what others thought of me.

Obviously I won't be rude or nasty to people because I'll still care about that but what I mean is I just feel that I can now be 100% myself without really worrying :D

oh yes, wasn't advocating that - what I find now is that I just worry about how I treat others - if they have a problem with me that's not based on how I treat them, that's their problem, not mine.

Yeah I just thought I would make it clearer what I mean, and exactly, I think that if you have loads of friends who like you and respect you, then why should you worry about a small minority who don't understand where you're coming from? :)
